Apparently it's 'coat tails' and looks great. Except if it was TT the same thing would look terrible, I'm sure :) .

I think the biggest question with the official is what's going on with the ankles. They seem a little overengineered just to make the leg cannons and if formed from the train for that purpose they could have accomplished it a lot easier and cleaner . @Liampope work the other day makes me think this may be somewhat thick, the chest looks to be a bit more than just Shouki folded in half.

I think we'll get some of that answered by Feb., the legs bots are probably next, just noticing how much detail was able to be picked up in brightening the photo.

TT did the same thing, just instead it was a block. Both have massive slabs of kibble, one just looks slightly more interesting than the other.

He certainly looks more dapper I'll give you that. When MP buttflaps were a new thing with UM, I thought that resembled a nice tux tail also. I just prefer TT's kibble as it is G1 accurate which is all that matters!

These trains are realistically long and thin in proportion, so I'm sure the chunky ankles were a way of using up a good chunk of train. They look like a section of train with some more panels flipped inside out over the front and back.

The majority of the torso, at least upper torso is definitely just Shouki folded into a ball with his legs up behind his back (well there's more to it than that but that's the rough idea). My model just lacks the partsforming Raiden chest plate currently. From the brightened silhouette Kaen seems to form only crotch and thighs, but might also be some of him filling out lower back. Yeah it's definitely a thick torso with Shouki's legs on the back like that.

Fair enough. I’ve just never been the pure G1 accuracy guy so I guess seeing something a bit more different interests me more. I do like both the TT and 3p renditions tho, just in different ways. I feel like they tackle things completely differently which is cool to see.

Yeah I hate the Japanese names, because they don't fit with the rest of the US names. I made up my own English names for them, based on other Transformers trains. That being said, I don't have any special connection to them, as I've never had any transformers trains (besides Astrotrain and any other American G1 there may have been), nor have I ever seen the Japanese Headmasters. I'd say that even the TT aren't cartoon accurate, as they use toy-style insignias. But I get that they weren't going for hyper toon accuracy with these guys or Skids. IF I get any of these (official or third party), it will just come down to whichever is cheaper, without preordering or buying early. Anyway, my names:

    Railbots (Trainbots):

    Frostbite (Yukikaze)
    Midnight Express (Getsuei)
    Rail Racer (Shoki)
    Railspike (Suiken)
    Rapid Run (Seizan)
    Steamhammer (Kaen)

who combine to form----- Conductor (Raiden)

I think Raiden is still a fine name for the combined mode, but I like the rest of them

If they ever had a proper English release, Hasbro would have certainly renamed them.

Alternatively, you could use the names Hasbro gave the Micromaster combiner, which of course calls the combined form Rail Racer.

If Beast Machines Tankor was "Fat Tankor" and Octane was "Tall Tankor," does that make Micromaster Tankor "Tiny Tankor"?

I think my name, Conductor, is clever in two ways- as in train Conductor, and also electricity Conductor, as Raiden, the god of thunder, was.

I know you mean well, but to me there’s something a bit weird about taking a name in another language and Englishifying it.

It’s like having a Japanese workmate called Kazuo Nakata and insisting on calling him Dave Michaels.

    Maybe it’s just me!

That's really not the same thing. Nobody's feelings are going to get hurt when you fail to call them by their "birth" names.

That's just a matter of localization. The Japanese toylines used to rename the characters all the time (much less prevalent nowadays). No reason Hasbro shouldn't be able to do the same (and of course, it has).

The difference is if Hasbro had released the toys back in say the 80s, they would have been given their "Dave Michaels" equivalents in the first place.
