The higher price is something I’ve noticed since 2017 forward, not sure if it has to do with merging with Tomy and brand unification with Hasbro.

However I think economies of scale plays a part moreso than before. Prior to 2018 you could count on Takara to rerelease an MP eventually, from months to a year after the initial release. We haven’t seen that happen in a while. For example, it was largely thought MP-44 and MP-47 would be rereleased. They haven’t been yet and it’s already been a few years. So I’m beginning to think the higher MSRP is due to lower production runs and a halt to rereleases/subsequent production runs in the near future. Maybe merging with Tomy got Takara in the “one(release/production run) and done mentality”. Lower production =higher production cost for Takara = higher end cost to us.

So if MP Cliffjumper has a higher MSRP, I don’t think Takara plans to rerelease it anytime soon after it’s initial release, at least for a few years.

And yet, Lio Convoy had a reissue just a few months after his initial release. I wanna say preorders even went up before the first release was out.

However, it is very strange we haven't seen any others theast few years.

I think Sunstreaker was last year, Soundwave the year before that and Lio last year. Also hasn't been a BW either, Ono may be focusing on getting "his"stuff out over reissues. The anniversary for the movie is next year, we probably will see both Prime and Megatron reissued.

Don’t forget that a reissue of MP Optimus Primal was solicited in September.

I suspect that the recent slowdown of reissues is in part due to manufacturing issues related to the pandemic. Production schedules, including new figures and reissues, likely needed to be revised in response to shutdowns and supply chain issues that have been part of the global situation.

The Primal reissue has not been solicited by TT though. It appears to be a Hasbro Asia reissue.

Ah, right. Thanks for the reminder.

How many MP figures have actually had TT solicited reissues?

This looks like the first one since MP-45 where I felt they went all in on the Sunbow look in both robot and vehicle mode.

I know the last one I bought was BW Cheetor.

Off the top of my head:
    Convoy v2
    BW Primal
    BW Lio Convoy
    BW Dinobot
    BW Cheetor
    Sunstreaker
    Soundwave

There are a whole bunch more, I’m sure. Maybe others can chime in too.

Thanks, guys. I knew there were several but couldn’t remember how many and didn’t have an opportunity to look it up.

    That explains a lot.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Siege Crosshairs the Forgotten? I thought not. It’s not a story the MP Collectors would tell you. It’s a CHUG deluxe. Siege Crosshairs was a Repaint of Siege Ironhide, so simple and so colourful he could use his plainess to influence the consumers to create customs… He had such a plain appearance that he could even stay on store shelves for years. The siege side of Walmart is a pathway to many figures some consider to be unplayable. He became so plain… the only thing he was afraid of was people noticing his hollow plastic, which eventually, of course, they did. Unfortunately, he shelf-warmed so long, that the Walmart employee threw him in the dumpster. Ironic. He could stop himself from being purchased, but not being thrown away.

I wanted to follow up on this earlier but it’s been a busy day and I haven’t had a chance until now. :)

I’m curious why you mentioned the merger with Tomy as a possible factor of recent price increases when that merger happened 15 years ago. Wouldn’t that influence have already been a factor long before the price increases and fewer reissues you mention noticing since 2017?

This reminded me of an old article when Takara lost their Pokémon license.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/seekin...e/4086626-is-takara-tomy-in-hasbros-gunsights

I haven’t tracked of it since then but it makes total business sense for them to look at what people are willing to pay in 3rd party offerings and go for the money. To me that was the most evident in the latest MP prime where people were willing to throw down $500.

You're mixing up two things, the price of MP-44 and what people may be willing to pay. The price of MP-44 was less than 300 USD (would have to look up the exact price, but I believe it was around 270 USD by heart). People who paid 500 USD for MP-44... Well, they apparently like to waste their money.
