See, I'm the opposite... I cancelled my pre-order for this in order to get the MMC version as I think XTB's will be too big. I think MMC's will be a little bit smaller, and I like that difference in heights... plus, from the renders, it does appear that MMC's is going to clean up a lot better in both modes.

Originally, I was going to get MMC's First Aid and Blades, as I imagined (following the train of thought from their Combaticon set) that the arm-bots would be on the taller side... but after seeing how diddy their FA was, I swapped both out for XTB, and given we've now seen that they're coming in at MP Ratchet scale, I'm happy.

I'm not so sure we'll see a youth version. Generally speaking the cartoon was much closer to the toy, ignoring a few obvious differences like Groove's chest/arm colour, nothing as drastic as the Stunticons. I guess they could release a more toy like Groove and Hotspot to go with the others but I'm not sure the numbers would be big enough to warrant it. I know Defensor himself is arguably the biggest difference between the 2 styles but I reckon they could do an add on pack to turn him more toy accurate in a similar way FT did with Soundwave.

I might be wrong but I reckon G2 is much more of a realistic chance.

I don't mind different sizes, but the difference between First Aid and Streetwise and Groove is so big that makes them look like a father and his teenager and little son. Besides, shoulder to shoulder First Aid seems to be wider than Ironhide, and being so large the beefiness is more noticeable and looks out of character for a compassionate and pacifist doctor. That's the reason I don't like Fanstoys Skyfire, he's a big scientist, not a rugby player. And the shoulders look to be too far back, posing just like XTB Seaspray.

Since I don't care much about Defensor, I think I'm going to mix and match, pairing MMC First Aid with Fuzz and Jocund to smooth the scale diferences, and because I like First Aid being smaller than Ratchet. I also like XTB Blades being the tallest limb, cause helicopter>ambulance>car>motorbike improves the sequence. Not sure about getting Hotspot since I think he will consume too much space and money for what I consider a a boring character. This would sacrifice the van to van scale, but this group's alt scale is fucked anyway, so who cares. I hope they will look something like this:

    Dear Keith, see?
Making groove the same height as fuzz will just easily solve many people's scale problem.
    Or a seeker height Fuzz2.0?

To me, Streetwise/firstaid/blade being the seekers height and groove being a carbot size, would just look perfect.

I was thinking that too, these bots are actually not too bad in terms of toy similarity. Just trying to decide if I should jump on these while they're easily available or wait and see. I'm getting the MMC set anyways because I love their bots modes, but need something that scales in combined mode with my Devastator/Bruticus/Superion/Menasor.

Quick and dirty comparison, I think there's definitely enough room for a youth set.

Oooo. Groove is clearly the shortest toy (with Blades a very close second) while the animation model has First Aid as the shortest for some reason. Can it be agreed that no matter what, the Protectobots are clearly the most scale challenged team of combiners out there? Well, at least Autobot combiners since the Combaticons are also pretty egregious.

But at least the biggest plane in the Aerialbots is also the biggest robot. I was going to suggest them for Silverbolt, but at least there is some logic to this mass shifting. The fact that the toy helicopter is smaller than the toy sports car and that the animated motorcyle is intended to be taller than the animated ambulance just gets me every time.

BTW, that Aerialbot image is excellent.

Here the issue is so egregious in size difference. In the cartoon with the exception of Hot Spot the team members were the same size. It's a real problem with this team that does look quite good otherwise and I like a lot of the engineering. This is a G1 toy problem like Blaster and Metroplex and Devy next to each other. I think this does highlight the problem that others have mentioned about not seeing the full members of a team together before buying. They have been good with showing Defensor and renders but this is something they knew from the beginning regarding scale. If renders for all 5 were next to each other with these size differences it would have been a huge issue from the beginning. I don't have Fuzz and I am considering backing out of this one now. This does look like a great looking set but that is a bridge too far with me. I liked UT Bruticus but some disinformation in the beginning left me unhappy about the size on that one.

yep, scale is a clusterfuck, and these do things we cannot replicate in real life. so, we do the best we can and understand the limitations we are constrained with. accept reality already, things will not change if you complain enough.

They always faked the size of the Stunticon cars in relation to Gravestone which I still find shadey.

We know it’s not gonna work out easily with Defensor’s weird vehicle combo but it’d be nice to hear some rough height estimates or renders before they’re all out.

Exactly. The never-ending scale discussion is generally dumb and unproductive. It's even worse when combiners are involved. I just enjoy the shit.

They also hid the size of Jocund until release, playing with the perspective so it looked larger. Definitely I'd like XTB to be transparent about their products.
