The market is not us. We are collectors. We are literally 10-20% of the market. This number has been acknowledged and verified by Hasbro, Mattel, and every other major toy manufacture out there for the last 30 years. Children are the market. Mothers are the market. We are the afterthought. If every single collector alive decides to hold the line, that leaves 90% of the line unheld. This fact is not in dispute. And even if it were, people are individuals, not collective groups. We don't think as a mob, we think as a self interest. So now you're fighting demographics AND psychology!

I don't buy that 10% crap. Literally every line I collect is designed to look like the characters from my childhood and so well articulated that a child would break it in a week. If I'm afraid to break things handling them gently (and have a few times), there's no way these would stand up to even light play. Kids and parents do not have the disposable income that most collectors do to drop hundreds of dollars at a time on action figures.
Also, most kids aren't interested in toys, it's all about digital content for their Minecraft and Roblox and Fortnight skins.
I'm pretty sure the only reason most of the toy lines I collect haven't been moved from the toy dept to the collectables section in the electronics dept is that would require extensive remodeling. The DC figures are already there, while the Marvel Legends that they almost never even stock are still in toys. So Batman and Superman are no longer for kids?

Okay, so again, I don't want to clog up this thread, so I won't be addressing it any more after this. But for you and anyone else who is interested, Spector Creative is a really good introductory resource for this issue. He clearly illistrates why and how collectors only make up 10-20% of the market, and what impact that has over all. Also, Masterpiece TFs are marketed to ages 8+. They are literally designed for kids, but with collectors in mind. It's right there on the box.
