Hey guys, I don't know a lot about painting and color theory, so I guess this was bound to happen eventually. I'm making a BW Smokescreen, and I'm trying to make it G1 toy styled, just like my BW Bluestreak. However, red, white, and blue are really weird to translate onto a big cat body. I need suggestions on how to overhaul the paint job, because it does not look good. Here's robot mode, which I think looks alright. And while we're here, gold mutant head to match the gold horns. The real problem is in beast mode. Like I said going into this, I had no idea how to layout the colors for this interpretation, and I sort of just wung it. I was going for a primarily blue body with white top and white drybrushing everywhere else, with blood for a touch of red. I used a black wash on the sculpt to make the white look not so white I guess, and maybe to suggest dirt, but it looks like crap. Watdo
Why not give him something close to prime smokescreen's colors? All white on the outside then the color pops in robot mode
You could always take a note from how Universe Optimus Primal was done, where the red and white form a colored patch down the beast mode's back
I'm trying to emulate the G1 version as closely as possible. That's good too. I think I'll take off the paint again, and try it out. Do you think I should keep the blood effects on the mouth? I really like how it mimics the red on G1 Smokescreen's hood chest.
The taillights on Bluestreak are a really nice touch Who is the blue one on the left? I'd either go with @DarkProwler 's suggestion or turn him into a tiger and give him blue with red and white stripes. Or keep him a cheetah with red and white dots. But I really like the concept of your paint scheme here. It could only be a little bit cleaner.
Personally, I'd take it off, especially if he's still going to be an Autobot/Maximal. Makes him look more feral than I think I good guy should be. Besides, if you do the fur striping down the back, the red will end up on the back of the cat head and it won't need to be rotated around. But that's me. You do you, and if you like it, that's all that matters
Beast Wars color schemes didn't always have to make sense. And, honestly, when I saw this the first thing I thought was Jungle Fury.
Hi all, I apologize for the silence, but I got busy with finals and holiday planning. However, I did read all of your comments, and I think everyone had interesting ideas! Ultimately, I ended up going with @DarkProwler 's universe Optimus primal idea, and I like how it turned out! Also, @Gmasterstudios sent me some videos on how to paint fur. Thanks man, really appreciate it! Here's waht I got so far: I'll post beast mode pictures later, but I think the muzzle definitely needs more paint. I'm currently painting sticker details on the arms, and after that... He should pretty much be good to go. Thanks for looking, and thank you for your help. Happy holidays!
