Thrilling 30 Metroplex was 2013 (ugh, getting old) and his buddy Scamper is the wrong scale for the new Sixgun and Slammer. So Hasbro, when are we getting a Legacy Scamper? I know you've got stuff planned out for 2022 already, but 2023 would be 10 years (ouch, stop that) since the last one.

And while he wasn't my formative years Metroplex, many Transformers fans consider Cybertron Metroplex to be theirs. So, Drill Bit when? He'd probably have enough appeal to sell well among the rest of us existing fans (and new fans).

Speaking of a Legacy Scamper, Thrilling 30 Scamper looks like he could be a six-wheeled Cybertronian descendent of a Lamborghini Aventador. Now I know people have nocked around the pros and cons of using Earthrise Sunstreaker as a possible base for a Lockdown retool, but have you considered using a new tooling that could work for both Scamper and Lockdown? I think Lockdown works better as a Cybertronian-styled/-influenced car alt over an Earth alt, so six wheels and a big roof cannon(s) would fit him fine. You could use the combined design plan to make the new tooling a lanky, wiry tall deluxe (Leone's Angel Eyes, Star Wars's Cad Bane) figure not hampered by Sunstreaker's mold limitations. And since you'd have to fudge any Aventador inspiration anyway to avoid infringement, you could easily borrow design cues from Lockdown's Animated & RotF incarnations.

Hell, drop the AoE Lockdown homage entirely, and just make Legacy Lockdown a six-wheeled, roof-canned version of his Animated & RotF incarnation. I'm sure Legacy Scamper would look fine wild from that shared tooling too if you just removed the spiky, Mad Max-y bits for his (p)retool.

In conclusion, my Transformers heresy is a land of contrasts knows no bounds, but I still want a new Scamper and Lockdown.

 

I actually have been thinking about that this morning and I think that's the next logical step, especially after Slammer (a toy that never even had a robot mode before) was released. They would definitely have to made Scamper into a Weaponizer to complement the others and who knows? Maybe they could even come-up with a combined mode just like they did with the Fossilizers.

But seriously, I'm not even that much of a G1 fan but I think is time for a proper G1 Metroplex update.

I concur that I also had no idea what a micro-cassette was. Such things didn't really exist in rural Michigan. But tapes were everywhere. So I recognized him as a tape player. Which, also, had no practicality as opposed to turning into a car, a jet, a flying monster, etc. Standing completely alone, it was a great toy just for what it was. Just because the modes were so great and interacted with the tapes.

As an adult, I look at these fictional universes and how they fit into an overall story. The story helps the toyline succeed or fail. The whole ability for Soundwave and his tapes to have a practical reason for their alt modes never really fit beyond a couple of story points where he used his mode to be picked up by humans and taken inside something. (Used once in comics, cartoons, live movies, etc.) Soundwave succeeded as a character, nevertheless, because the story worked. The gimmick with the tapes worked. The voicing on the cartoons with the vocalizer was classic.

Comparatively, the Rock Lords toyline was a failure. The whole concept just failed to turn into a storyline that kids related. They transformed into rocks and were pointless.

I notice that the "size shifting" gimmick hasn't really been used in fictional reboots since G1. Soundwave in later iterations has always turned into some kind of vehicle. The character has lasted. Soundwave and Blaster would sell just as action figures regardless of transformation. So I take it the alt modes of tapes is all purely nostalgia, anyway.

 

IS Scamper the wrong scale? I mean, his scale really is "fits inside Metroplex's chest door ramp garage" and the tiny one is still better than a Deluxe for that.

 

I saw the pre-order of Blaster yesterday via BBTS. But I'm not trying to pay $40 for Blaster after shipping and taxes if I don't have to.

Go figure that I have a ton of Target and Amazon gift cards and no Wave 5 Kingdom figures have shown up at either site yet.

 

So I\'m still wondering something, even after these 3 have been revealed there\'s still two kingdom numbers that don\'t have a figure (36 and 43) attached to them.

Is this going to be another case like earthrise 28 or are we still getting two more items?

I like this Blaster enough that I'll probably get him. Why do I have all these Autobots? Man!

Many people hold the opinion that Siege Starscream came with Thundercracker's face, and vice versa. There was, at the time, quite a bit of chatter about how to swap the faces (which is a very simple operation involving one screw).

So even when Hasbro attempted to give people what they wanted, they stuffed it up (kinda like the Prowl and Bluestreak heads in Siege and Earthrise - if you want your toys to have the right heads, you need to buy all four, swap things around, do some minor plastic surgery on the neck balls and sockets, and then paint a few bits). Seems like a simple thing, certainly simple enough for a company the size of Hasbro, but there you go.

 

I'm definitely preordering blaster. He's been one of my favourite transformers for a while now and I've been hoping for a WFC Blaster figure ever since the the trilogy started.

 

Hmm. I have the Earthrise Command Trine, but some of my other seekers have great expressions. Red Wing...

What with Red Wing's face, I know Target = Red, but he should really have been hot pink, because the Siege wing style and that face made him look exactly like Misfire.

I don't remember much about it and I haven't looked at my seeker's faces in a while, but I think people were annoyed Starscream had a stoic face, Skywarp had a smirking face, and Thundercracker had a shouting face?
People just felt the expression each figure had wasn't appropriate for the characte and/or looked stupid.

 

I really prefer Lockdown as an Earth car, but I'd make an exception for a 6-wheeled Cybertronian car similar to Scamper's G1 alt mode. It reminds me of a Batmobile, or a futuristic version of the Hydra car from Captain America:

so I think it would fit Lockdown perfectly. I'm not sure if it would make sense for Scamper to be that large since Lockdown should be at least as tall as the largest Deluxes like Trailbreaker and Perceptor, but I'd much rather they sacrifice the scale accuracy for Scamper than halfass Lockdown by repainting him from Sunstreaker, which IMO would take away everything that makes him cool and unique.

 

On the other hand, my obsession with the tape-formers made me buy a microcassette recorder and pack it around with a bunch of blank cassettes for a period of several years, recording ideas and conversations (with permission) when I felt like something important sprang to mind.
