"Call me Death's Head Plus, Death's Head Redux, even Death's Head 2.0. But never call me Death's Head II, yes?!" My scratch built Masterpiece Death's Head version 2.0. What what was going to be just a rebuild of the crotch and hips to replace the hip ball joints with ratcheted universal joints became a complete rebuild and resculpt. After 4 years I was already unhappy with him, but the more I looked, the more problems I discovered. Version 1 was a shoddy mess. I used the hip ratchets from a junker 2007 movie Prime, cut everything back to just the ratchets and minimal structure around them. Then built the crotch assembly directly onto it, and a cover piece that screws on. Built in thigh swivels and dremelled out the thighs as they were solid. Cut the backs off the thighs and built in receivers for the thigh swivels, and an assembly the thigh plates screw to to lock the thigh swivels in place. All the musculature was resculpted, many parts were replaced with new pieces. The belt and abs area was completely rebuilt, and I gave DH a new ab crunch as well as a lower neck balljoint. Overall articulation was increased. Joint gaps were all filled out. Most of his armour was beefed up and added to. The shoulder pads especially, dropping further down the back, much thicker piping and a much thicker collar across the jacket. Everything was tweaked to fit together better. Weapons were made effects parts compatible. New accessories were built from scratch, including the iconic damaged Shockwave head. Built an adapter to fit a FansToys stand, and created a missile smoke trail from hot glue. I decided to add battle damage to his armour, something I deliberately avoided previously. I contrasted this with making his bodywork as pristine as possible, reasoning his living metal heals as per transformers. Version 2 is so much better in every respect. Took me 9 months to finish this rebuild. From the original post: Roughly built on a KO Hot Toys blank buck, I rebuilt everything except the internal shoulder joints and diaphragm rocker, and scaled the buck down to a 10 inch figure. DH is mainly built from epoxy putty and sheet styrene. All the musculature is sculpted from epoxy putty. Lego ball joints for neck, wrists, ankles, armour pieces and cape articulation. Lego Technic posts for the weapon connections, the top of a Lynx shower gel bottle as the basis for the shield, and lots of bits and pieces. The hands are very heavily modded KFC Soundblaster hands. A sharpie for the gun. The 20,000 Shanix are dolls house jars with chunky glitter inside. Painted using automotive silver spray, Citadel paints and brushes, then spray varnished. The first build took me nearly 18 months. Original post for comparison: Heavy/Scratch: - Masterpiece Death's Head
I was blown away by version one, so this is absolutely incredible. Mad props to you man, this thing is a work of art.
Yes. Yes they are. I'm very proud. Built whole new eye assemblies for this rebuild. And thank you, dude.
Utterly incredible - I'm blown away! It's like he stepped out of a Geoff Senior panel. Congratulations!
