Final colors look good; hopefully finished before CNY. IF is just trucking along this year.

 

Heh, yeah, its good to finally see movement on this! The OCD part of me has been eagerly awaiting this to go along with IF Megs/Starscream/Shockwave (well, technically MFT, since I like a beefy Shockwave) since I have the group in MST and NA forms.

 

On FB they mentioned it would come out around the Spring Festival so I think that means after CNY.

We still have Alpha Trion, Dev Con, Seaspray and Beachcomber before CNY too.

 

His chest is huge. Would it have killed them to make the tape compartment big enough for some actual tapes? At this point all you could do is stuff character-colored tape wafers in behind that door.

Looking good, but I would really love to see Rumble and Frenzy.

Wow, yeah, this is really doing nothing for me in colour. I think he's too similar to his G1 self to be interesting? Doesn't feel all that distinct from the NewAge release.

Seeing one of his IDW appearances brought to life would've been potentially more interesting:

 

It does feel like IF were trying to have their cake and eat it by having a Soundwave that could be both a classic G1 figure with the tapedeck mode and an IDW figure with the vehicle mode. That's hardly unique to Soundwave, a lot of their figures have this kind of hybrid approach (especially the ones with swap-out parts like Tyrant), but it being effectively a triple-changer in Legends scale means it can't lean too hard in any one direction.

I'm glad that it does actually have a vehicle mode though, even if it is a box on wheels, since the tapedeck mode doesn't really fit a IDW lineup for the most part and I don't think any other Legends version of Soundwave have one.

 

The black thing is the guard/handle thing. It looks like the Megatron gun that came with IF seekers.

 

I think if they had released closer to when it was first revealed the tape deck would have given IF a few more sales. But at this point NA and Magic Square have released G1 Soundwaves; an APC Soundwave or another IDW design would have been really interesting. And Soundwave is popular enough that people probably would picked him up.
I expect he'll still really sell well, but feels like a missed opportunity.

that megatron gun is a fucking beast. it is easily the best version outside of the original MP gun.

the whole thing is modular so you do whatever you want with it.

i am glad IF went all out on that little pistol.

ps...i can't wait to pick up this S-Dubs

 

i wasn't planning on picking up yet another soundwave, but if it's not priced too high, i think i'll be getting it since overall the bot looks pretty good to me, except the big honking feet. both alt modes are okay, although a bit unfinished looking. would have preferred if they had dropped the cassette tape mode and refined the vehicle mode to make it look better.

i'm not sure if that's even possible because if you look at the cassette player mode, the sections that form the sides of the chest looks like they rotate and flip out. so there might not be any actually depth for a compartment space to be had.

 

Alt modes be damned, this is the nicest Soundwave legends figure yet, and I am excited to finally own this bad boy!  

I just hope Iron Factory pulls through with a whole slew of CassetteCons, though.  

 

Agreed, I want everyone. In every color. Just like their damn seekers.

 

At the pace that Iron Factory, I might bite, too!

And, for what it’s worth, my only seeker for the longest time was Sunstorm because I loved his story in the old DreamWave comics.

But, I also recently got Red Wing and Nova Storm because they look really cool.  

 

I also am a gigantic DreamWave Sunstorm comic fan. I just recently acquired the mini “comic” that came with the eHobby Sunstorm because the one I got didn’t come with one, but I love his Vector Sigma chosen one story the best.

One thing that kind of irked me is, (though some may disagree), the way his color scheme went from awesome orange to light yellow-orange. I wish they had stuck with that striking orange color for him. It made the white accents really pop.

But yes! Hell ya to IF Soundwave!!!
