What seller did you get Hoodlum from? Do you have a link?

Anyone ever tried the Studio 86 Hot Rod accessories with this guy? Do the guns with the blast effects or the matrix with its effect piece look OK with him?

I have not, but SS86 is probably more that a third shorter than hoodlum. Would be very small in his hands.

I was toying around with my hoodlum, and noticed that the yellow paint on the chest is cracked. Is this an isolated thing or do more people have this issue?
Some time ago somebody noticed that their Koot has cracked paint on the arches over the front wheels next to shoulders... I'm starting to worry about the durability of my FT figures :(  They're mostly display pieces, and I'm rather gentle with them... Unlike koot, I'm certain they weren't there when I bought him :(

Not sure about that area but the red on the front of the car that goes into the waste was chipped in the box on most copies. FT upon request sent out a rubber strip to place inside the waist and some red paint to touchup the area. The yellow paint on plastic cracking is a wholly different issue. I would more equate that to a problem with exposure to heat and sunlight that dried out the paint to cause that issue. Sometimes the type of porosity in the plastic will cause problems with the paint adhering properly but that seems like a weird occurrence in this instance.

That's awesome! I didn't know that guy was an artist and did that box art. I bought a XTransbots Andras from him. Cool. Has he done any other Fans toys box art?

My Hoodlum and my Koot are both still in pristine condition...no paint issues,so far.

Correct, which is why the cracking issue is puzzling. I maybe should have worded better but I was using that as an example to explain what could cause cracking and describing this as a weird occurrence in your case. I know the chest is die cast because on my copy the red paint that chipped off was caused by the paint not fully adhering properly. It was actually chipped new in the box. I cannot describe how you would have issues in the mid chest with cracking and not have any flaking. Maybe the paint was too thinned out when applied.

Perhaps. I mean they are really hard to see. I tried to take a pic, but as long as I don't reflect another light source off of him I can't manage to capture them in a visible way. Maybe the layer of paint was to thick? Dunno, but the orange paint underneath it looks pristine. If it stays like this I'll be OK, but I'm afraid it might start flaking at one point.

Maybe its an isolated issue... If FT ever reissues him, I'll hit them up for a replacement piece.

Sorry my friend. The cracking is clearly visible as well as the orange peel effect. It does look like a heavier coat and that it did not adhere properly. In automotive applications you have such wide surface areas and step of wet sanding primer, sealant/adhesion promotor, color sanding but you get runs or flashing that later have to be removed from clear coat by buffing. In something this simple you just won't get those corrective measures so it appears an uneven coat caused it. I think you will be fine in the long run but right to be worried. I treat my figures the same as you like Faberge eggs. I think they are good for a couple of transformations but really are either for protected direct display or keeping in the original box.

Of all the things FT does right, I think the physical figure holds up in the long run because of robust materials but you do worry about all the beautiful paint and how durable it will be.

Wait wait----the yellow flames are on a diecast part? Rippling paint on a diecast piece----My first impression is an early sign of zinc rot...

Though normally, paint will tend to bubble/ripple more, vs sharp lines like that, when the rot sets in.

I didn't think that that orange peel effect was also a sign of problems. Anyway, I hope it holds. if not, I'll a) buy a junker, b) get a replacement part if they reissue him, c) find somebody who does customization d) get the reprolabel set (it has a sticker for the front, though tbh that paint job is (was?) gorgeous). But so far, knock on wood, I'll wait and hope that it does not deteriorate.

Also, I've checked my other FT figures. Luckily, no problems I can see. So that's good news. Hopefully an isolated incident.

I don't think its zinc rot - I'm not sure what materials they use, but it doesn't to be zinc (I had old zinc toys in my childhood, somehow it seems different to touch). But I'm a layman when it comes to this.

Perhaps you could try getting the toyhax set. It has a replacement label for Hoodlum's chest.

Orange peel is not a sign of problems and usually it is just buffed out on a car. You tend to see it on factory painted car panels. It generally relates to uneven application usually of clear coat versus paint but essentially the paint doesn't atomize properly because of a number of factors of which humidity is a big one. Here we know it is the paint so it may be humidity and perhaps the thinner used with the paint and that may have also led to the cracking issue. It may not have been mixed properly and also agitated to produce air bubbles. I am not a paint expert either.

Anyone know if a good nail polish that would match box the magenta and orange? Or paints for that matter?

    Thanks in advance.
