YOu know, I was wondering, what came first, Age of Apocalypse or the animated episode One Man's Worth? I mean, they use AoA designs in this story, both are centered around alternate universes were Professor X was killed before forming the X-Men, and yet, one of them had to have been created first.
According to Wikipedia Age if Apocalypse started in January 1995. According to IMDb that episode aired September 9, 1995
And if you actually look at primary sources for the Wikipedia article on AoA you'll find the interviews where the Lewalds and Larry Houston state that One Man's Worth inspired AoA. https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/the-making-of-x-men-the-animated-series LARRY: Wolverine and Storm in that story— Eric wrote [one of] the first interracial kisses, interracial marriages, in animation. But something else that Eric did—when he created the story One Man's Worth, Marvel liked it so much that they went ahead and it inspired the AGE OF APOCALYPSE. X-Men: the Animated Series creators pick their favorite episodes Eric: We worked for five years to come up with these stories and maybe a couple dozen of them really were exactly the kind of story we wanted to tell. And the other two thirds, we do the best we can, they’re good. Some of them are a little weaker, but there were at least a dozen, were we said: “We got it right this time.” I discovered “One Man’s Worth” was one because Bob Harris, our advisor at Marvel, and who was in charge of all the X-Men books, said that a little over a year later, Marvel built the Age of Apocalypse series off of that idea. We’d taken all these cool stories from them and used them in our show. The fact that they would take a story we came up with for the show that was original to the show and, you know, 18 months later, build this massive series of six or seven different books out of it was just amazing.
Yeah, I know the dates say AoA came first, but the animated series was always dealing with production issues. Many episodes aired out of order (hell, some aired two years late), and from what I recall, they showed Night of the Sentinels in like October of 92 but then restarted the show in March of 93 or something. And then there is the stuff AgentOrange just posted. It's why I've never figured out which came first.
Just finished reading Death of the Inhumans tpb and man, I wish we could get some more Inhumans figs. We still need Gorgon, Karnak, Triton and Crystal. I really want a new Black Bolt on that upcoming Vulcan buck. I also hope that they can make Black Bolt's wings clip on like the upper wings of Vulture and Falcon. And a Vox figure would be cool.
I think Blackbolt should be bigger than Vulcan. He is one of the strongest characters there is. I'd like to see him on a Thor or Sabertooth type buck.
Black Bolt is top tier in strength, but he's not ever portrayed being that big, is he? According to the marvel handbook he is only 6'2". Gorgon should be on the bigger buck, though.
More FF waves would be a natural home for some of the Inhumans, other than doing a box set. One thing I've wondered about, now that Hasbro's shown they're willing to do multiple FF waves - assuming we get more FF waves in the future, would Hasbro intend to include new versions of all four of the, um, Four, in each FF wave going forward, leaving only 2-3 slots for other characters + the BAF, or could it just be "Okay here's a new Thing and Sue, and then Diablo, a couple Inhumans, and Lyja"? I'd prefer the latter approach, but I understand if they feel obligated to do the former. Hasbro's been sitting on 3.75 Triton and Karnak figures they could upsize to MLs, so I expect at least those two to show up eventually. I really want at least Avengers Crystal at some point too.
I wish they would just commit to doing a wave of Fantastic Four villains. Why the hell do we not still have Mole Man of all villains despite the Doc Ock body being perfect for him for like the last 3 years? On top of that, give us Rama-Tut, Diablo, have Annihilus be the BAF, Thinker, Puppet Master, and Ronan.
I’ve been catching up on the Dawn of X run now that ComiXology Unlimited has the X of Swords TPB available. I continue to really enjoy these titles. Almost every one of them. Did Hasbro say if they’re releasing another HOX wave? I really want the following from the series: Bishop Captain Britain Rictor Gambit Sunspot Cypher Cannonball Deathbird
To add a little but more information here - The creators of the cartoon came up with the "One Mans Worth" story and wrote the script for the episode. Marvel loved it and pushed ahead with their own version - Age Of Apocalypse, BUT because of the massively drawn out timeline in creating a series of cartoons from the scripts, the comics were good to go before the episode was even realeased. What this also meant is that when they got to animating background characters for the "One Mans Worth" story, the character designs for AOA had already been complete. So they were able to use the designs for the comics AOA and add them to the background of the original Cartoon One Mans Worth story that was written before it.
The FF Wave finally starts to trickle out over here........ I'm guessing Johnny and Pscho must be in a separate box because my Retailer of Choice hasn't read the memo yet about saving the Planet's resources and combining deliveries. In the hope that any future Waves do them way better I'm not getting Sue and Reed - the versions I've already got are way better. Wish lists: Classic Warlock/Magus Classic Drax and Gamora Kirby Eternals Inhumans Royal Family (with redone BB) Jack of Hearts Terrax Abomination with FISTS and Double Knee joints - seriously how hard is it to get him right? Comic Micronauts/Prince Argon/The Baron Deaths Head I ROM Bob Layton Hercules and Recorder Asgardian Destroyer That should keep them busy between films.
They did. He was part of the two-pack with Black Panther Shuri. Though seeing as that was a TRU exclusive with variable availability I could see it getting reissued.
I'd love to see comic Eternals, though I'd probably prefer their current costumes from the comics over their looks from the 70's. I'm thinking Terrax is most likely a sure thing this next year to prepare for Galactus. Rom would be cool, but probably will never happen in Marvel Legends. Hasbro owns Rom, but Marvel owns aspects of the old stories he appeared in. So I don't see that happening. Classic Drax and Gamora should have been done by now. And a new Abomination would be great.
