Articles on Marvel corner boxes, complete with images.

The Peerless Power of Comics!: Marvel's Classic Corner Boxes: Fantastic Four Vol. I
The Peerless Power of Comics!: Marvel's Classic Corner Boxes: Mighty Thor Vol. I, Incredible Hulk Vol. II

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

[IMG] This was when the Thing temporarily left the Fantastic Four, so Jen Walters filled in for him.

[IMG] This was when Reed and Sue temporarily left the Fantastic Four, so Miss Marvel/She-Thing (Sharon Ventura) and Crystal filled in. They later returned, as the last image shows.

[IMG] I think the last two are a special guest appearance and not a roster change, though I can't be sure.

[IMG] This is a parody of Ann Nocenti.

[IMG] The Joe Fixit Hulk era.

[IMG] The time Thor donned new armor. He also had to debut Throg in one issue.

It's nice art, but Stark made more armors than that didn't he? Or are these established as his favourites?

I remember that! It was such an obvious sales grab, but also really fun.

It only was 4 issues, these days they would drag it out over two years.

These days? It was only 1990. Yeah it’s 30 years back but it’s also not terribly far from the the Reign of The Superman arc, Azbats, the Clone Saga, Etc. Marvel and DC were both only a few years away from editorial decisions that would drag storylines down into the mud.

I agree that now it would get dragged out, but that’s been true for a long long time.

Marvel's Time Variance Authority returns to comics for The Reckoning War in 2022 | GamesRadar+

Fresh off their MCU debut in Disney Plus' Loki, the Time Variance Authority will be a significant part of Marvel Comics' early 2022 event The Reckoning War.

The Reckoning War is a Marvel Comics crossover event revolving around Dan Slott's current run on the ongoing Fantastic Four title, but has grown to include several one-shots and other characters such as She-Hulk, Uatu the Watcher, Jack of Hearts, a group of mysterious villains, and now the Time Variance Authority.

Long-time Marvel Comics readers (and specifically readers of Dan Slott's stories), might treat the news of the Time Variance Authority's involvement in The Reckoning War as a given, since the phrase 'The Reckoning War' was first spoken by a Time Variance Authority agent in 2005's She-Hulk #2.

In that issue, Agent Peace of the Time Variance Authority warned She-Hulk that at some point in the near future she would set off a chain of events that would result in "The Reckoning War". It looks like the Time Variance Authority is coming back to say 'I told you so,' and then some.

That being said, the Time Variance Authority's appearances in comics are notoriously rare and usually surround special events, which The Reckoning War now seems to be one of.

A team of Secret X-Men is taking to the stars for a special mission in 2022 | GamesRadar+

Who are the newly announced team the Secret X-Men? Despite the squad's name, the members aren't hidden at all - they're all the mutants who didn't make the cut when Marvel Comics had readers vote on the final member of the current X-Men flagship team (Polaris won, by the way).

The so-called Secret X-Men will come together in an eponymous one-shot from writer Tini Howard and artist Francesco Mobili with a cover from Leinil Francis Yu, going on-sale February 9, 2022.

Comprised of Strong Guy, Forge, Tempo, Boom-Boom, Marrow, Armor, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Banshee, the Secret X-Men will unite for a "secret mission to the stars," as outlined in Marvel's announcement.

What is the mission? Regardless of the subterfuge involved in their task, the Secret X-Men's goal is no secret to readers, as Marvel states the story will revolve around the Shi'Ar empress, Xandra - who also happens to be the daughter of Charles Xavier and former Shi'Ar empress Lilandra.

"We had to do it, yeah? And I jumped at the chance to tell the story while I had the time," Howard states in Marvel's announcement. "Cannonball was my vote, and Strong Guy? Tempo? Boom-Boom? This is the perfect team for an intergalactic X-Men mission. I hope they didn't forget anything important!"

As for what it could be that the Secret X-Men have forgotten, that may be the biggest mystery present in Marvel's announcement, with no direct indication of what Howard's tease could mean offhand.

Perhaps whatever's going on will have something to do with the current Inferno story, in which Xavier and Magneto are losing control of Krakoa's leadership the Quiet Council to Mystique and Destiny, creating growing rifts among the mutants who populate the island.

    90s' Spider-Man spin-off team the Slingers returns in February | GamesRadar+

If you're a Spider-Man fan of a certain age, you almost certainly remember the Slingers - a team of teen heroes who spun off from Spider-Man in the late '90s. And for those fans who fondly remember the oddball team, you're in luck, as the Slingers are coming back this February in Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY (as we've said before, that's .BEY as in 'Beyond', like the current 'Spider-Man Beyond' era).

The Slingers originally started out as four separate alternate superhero identities used by Peter Parker at a time when it was too risky to be seen as Spider-Man because he was accused of murder.

After Peter returned to being Spider-Man, the four costumes were obtained by the obscure Golden Age hero known as the Black Marvel, who gave them to four rookie heroes he aimed to turn into his own team, spinning them off into their own Slingers title.

Interestingly enough, the Slingers' time as a team came to an end when they had to fight Mephisto for the fate of Black Marvel's soul - a particularly ominous connection given Mephisto's meddling in Peter's life.

Now, a new Slingers team will form under the guidance of the Beyond corporation, debuting in Amazing Spider-Man 88.BEY from writer Geoffrey Thorne and artists Jan Bazaldua and Jim Towe, with covers from Bazaldua and Nick Bradshaw.

What's more, at least one of the new Slingers has a secret identity that should be familiar to fans, as the new Hornet is none other than Hobie Brown, the original Prowler.

Hobie's had a rough few years, being killed, cloned, and then resurrected in Amazing Spider-Man: The Clone Conspiracy, and having his mantle of the mainstream Marvel Prowler fully taken over by Miles Morales' uncle Aaron Davis, the Prowler of the Ultimate Universe. Hopefully, a new lease on life as Hornet is exactly the turnaround Peter Parker's old friend and ally needs to get back to his old adventuring self.

Marvel gives no indication of who the identities of the other Slingers might be.

Has Slott rolled back his decision on Franklin, namely Franklin not being a mutant? I've decided I'm out on F4 until that's reversed.

I had borrowed from my local library Dawn of X Volume 1 and overall, it was a mixed bag because none of them seem to really get to their main points, and yet, there were some stories I enjoyed.

X-Men - I like how it continued where PoX/HoX left off and that's about it.

Marauders - This one intrigued me quite a lot and it was the story of the book I was not looking forward to the most. I like the idea of Kitty running a ship to take other mutants who can't teleport to Krakoa to it. Not sure how I am about her now wanting to be called Kate, but overall it was a fun time, especially when Pyro got excited for being able to use Lockheed's fire in his attack.

Excalibur - So Psylocke is back in her original body? No idea how that happened, but okay. Other than that, I can't say this story did much for me. Morgan Le Faye is the villain, so I might continue it, especially if we get to see her take on Apocalypse, but right now, he's the only reason I want to stick with this book.

New Mutants - Uh... yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, wasn't a fan. I guess I'm lost as to why the team was aboard Corsair's ship. Something about retrieving Cannonball, though they never actually explained what he was doing in space. I did laugh at the part when the team ditches Sunspot (wait, is that Sunspot?) and he realized he should have known that was coming. Same with when he won Corsair's stash of bourbon from the fight between Magik and Raza.

X-Force - The artwork was kind of atrocious in this one and hard to follow. The pacing also seemed to be all over the place. Obviously they didn't actually kill Professor X, but I guess the cliffhanger has me wanting to read the next issue.

Fallen Angels - Wait, so Psylocke is Asian again? Oh, that's not Psylocke, but she's going to go by Psylocke anyway? So now there's two Psylockes? I am so confused. Anyway, this was easily the worst of the six issues and I have no interest in reading another one. I did get a kick out of her conversation with Mr Sinister though.

Overall, I do wish my library had the next few Dawn of X books, or even the regular books themselves as honestly, it got a tad loopy jumping between each run. Still, I continue to be intrigued with this run.

Happened during the Hunt for Wolverine(the Mystery In Madripoor portion) Her original body was restored and Kwannon was resurrected and returned to her original body too. So Betsy has been the new Captain Britain since the Dawn of X relaunch. While Kwannon has been Psylocke.

Goodbye Green Goblin, hello Queen Goblin - meet Spider-Man's new nemesis

Queen Goblin will debut in February 2, 2022's Amazing Spider-Man #88, and continue to plague Ben Reilly in his new job as Spider-Man at least through Amazing Spider-Man #90.

A key question in the arrival of Queen Goblin, given the long 'Goblin Legacy' as Marvel calls it, is 'Is she a totally new character?' In one of Norman Osborn's most recent appearances as the Green Goblin in the story Superior Spider-Man: Goblin Nation, he upgraded his moniker to become the Goblin King.

In 'Goblin Nation', Osborn also enlisted several Goblin-serum enhanced allies, including the prior Hobgoblin and one-time Green Goblin Phil Urich, who Osborn dubbed the Goblin Knight, and Lily Hollister, the already Goblinized villain known as Menace. He also kidnapped and subverted Peter Parker's former love interest Carly Cooper, turning her into a twisted Goblin villain he named Monster.

Osborn himself was last seen fleeing from Kindred in Amazing Spider-Man #74 in his human form, leaving the door open for him to potentially play a direct role in the rise of the Queen Goblin.

So could Queen Goblin be a re-Goblinized, returning version of Monster or Menace? Or is the character totally new?

Queen Goblin? Seriously? That's the best they could do given there is already a character named the Goblin Queen??? I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry at how stupid that sounds.

What is the deal with this Spider-Man Beyond anyway?

Peter is in the hospital in a coma and Ben Reilly is Spider-man again the Beyond Corporation he's working for apparently have the copyright to the Spider-man name. They can see what he sees and even have the place he lives in under surveillance at all times. He has a fancy tech suit as well. (It's as bad as it sounds)

I thought the Ben Reily run was going to be set during the Clone stuff?

Either way, yeah, this sounds dumb. Peter's in a coma? AGAIN?! Wasn't that the plot of the book when Doc Ock inhabited Peter's body?

Yeah that Clone Saga era part could be confusing if you read the wrong announcements - JM DeMatteis is writing a Ben Reilly book set in the past, while Ben Reilly is currently Spidey in the present, most likely to give whatever is happening now some fleshing out.

Speaking of the current run though, I tried to give it a go because I like Ben Reilly but so far the story falls flat for me. Considering the life he led in hiding/wandering around, in addition to his Spider-adventures, he seems way too accepting of the Beyond Corp. The tone also feels a bit similar to the Worldwide era of Spidey mixed in with the Stark/Avengers era which I wasn't really too fond of.

So over in Miles Morales: Spider-Man, the Beyond Corp shows up and tells Miles he has to cease using the Spider-Man name since they own the copyright.

Beyond Corporation is back? My only memories of them are from Mighty Avengers, and I heard they're part of Nextwave. Given what I've seen, they're some serious bad buy level bad news.
