So what kind of coverage is this? ROTB? Investors? Marketing?

Doesn't look like there's much for Transformers fans to hang their hats on here. Interesting blurb about GIJoe, though. Regarding that, all I can say is they're going the wrong direction for me. This 45 year old doesn't want 6-inch figures with only a handful of vehicles to work with them. The vehicles and bases were the best thing about GIJoe when I was a kid - the characters were there to populate the toys, not the other way around. I guess I'd rather see highly articulated 2.5" figures - sell them in 2-packs for $14.99 - with vehicles that exist in the $9.99 (motorcycles/small outposts), $19.99 (mid-sized vehicle assortment like AWE Striker, HISS, plus a figure), $39.99 (Sky Striker/Killer Whale) and $59.99 (Terrordome/HQ) realm.

When I read the headline, I was hoping this would have news of them reviving the transformers card game that was uncerimoneously killed.

    From the front page:

“When we think about G.I. Joe, we think about the consumer who was 12 years old in 1990 or 1995 when G.I. Joe was like one of the biggest toy brands in the world. We’re thinking about, ‘Okay, what would they like G.I. Joe to be today as a 35 or a 40 year old?’ We’ve been thrilled with the response to some of the early concepts, how we’re maturing the brand, and how we’re keeping some of the core DNA but taking it in bold, new directions. We are thinking that there’s an amazing opportunity for that.”

    I’m already unexcited.

Is the years off or am I just mis-remembering? Because I could've swore peak GI Joe would've been '85 to '92-ish, not '90 or '95. I was born in '75 and I remember being heavily into GI Joe until mid-HS, be it the toys and/or the comics.

This all day. If I had the room, I'm pretty sure I'd have a mix of Joes/Cobra vehicles and figs along with those off-brand set, vehicles etc they used to sell at TRU. TF is my vice of choice tho' so until I can get a shed to make one big playset--I mean, so me and the missus can store stuff and clear out our closets :D --sadly, no Joes for me.

I will happily take a new G.I.Joe video game that does a better job of conveying the IP in game form than Operation Blackout did (though that game wasn't half as bad as it was made out to be IMHO, it was still a far cry from what a great Joe game could've been.)

Then if the engine and lessons learned from that process are suitable, adapt it to a Transformers game as well.

I'll believe either of those when I see them, though. Despite the pedigree of the team they've assembled being pretty solid.

As a joe fan during the 90’s what I and many others wanted was Gijoe to be like it was in the 80’s. The more it veered away, the less exciting it became. I especially felt this approaching and throughout the Battle Corps years then going to Sgt. Savage and GI Joe Extreme.

It’s really going to depend on approach and budget. If they intend this just to be a media tie-in for Gijoe toy lines and nothing more, it might be as short lived as Operation Blackout. The game itself has to be something with a lot of replayability and incentive to keep playing. If it’s something that’s just fun for 1 weekend it’s bound for the discount bin.

I'm fine with discount bin personally. Games like Earth Defense Force and the like rank among my favorite games of all time. I just want it to be good, polished for what it is, faithful to source material, and have a ton of content. Only one of which I could really say about Blackout personally. Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it.

The best Joe vehicles were the ones you could hold single-handedly so you could swoosh them around and have them chase/fight/interact with another hand-sized vehicle. The Skystriker and WHALE and whatnot were more "small playsets" than "vehicles" in that sense... unless you could wrangle a sibling or friend into manning the Rattler/Moray/whatever.

Fans can fight me on it...but I think the COBRA Maggot was one of the better vehicles because it was affordable and could separate into two vehicles and a base station. Need to one hand it? No problem. Want to roll it around as a massive tank? No problem!

Fight you? I could kiss you.

    With tongue.

The MAGGOT was awesome. The front tank is a perfectly swooshable little recon vehicle, the artillery post thing is ridiculous but also cool, and then THERE'S A SECOND LITTLE TANK TOO. Some of my favorite Joe stuff was the interaction between a small vehicle like the VAMP or HISS and the towable weapons systems. A VAMP hauling a flak gun that's firing on the COBRA jet pursuing it? RAD.

My favorite Joe vehicle was the Sky Hawk. Specifically, the chrome plated Sky Patrol version. Because everyone knew, chrome plated meant futuristic and upgraded and cooler. :lol  The main reason I love it though is sentimental. I used to play hangman during rainy days on scraps of notebook paper with my mom and I would always have my G.I.Joe vehicles lining our big bay window, looking out at the rain while we played. And the memory of that vehicle is very distinct in my mind as a part of that experience.

So Sky Hawk wins because of mom nostalgia. :lol
