By spacing things out by months not a whole year, off the top of my head Indiana Jones 5 was the only film really delayed.

Crazy to think in 2023 when this releases Bumblebee will have its 5 year anniversary.
No it's not cause of that, that has been resolved for right now and I also hope the film will maybe be pushed back up as things go along ( maybe to Dec. 2022 or something) but I just know that's my mind tricking me and I know that won't happen.

Except why not just stick to the December release? When Bumblebee had to be pulled for reshoots and retooling, they only got six months and all that was ultimately done was a few redone scenes, most of the bayverse stuff removed, and the Cybertron scenes. We even had @Optimus_Prowl say he viewed a test screening and from what he said, the only thing really left undone at this test screen (which was March, less than a few months from release) was the robot CGI and there also is the final scene with Megatron that was removed.

Now, we're the greater part of two years from release of ROTB. If it was just a matter of reshoots then they'd easily go for the December release as Paramount needs money, they haven't a good film in a long-ass time and ROTB was supposed to be a return to form. Now, they won't see a return on investment for over a year AND the budget might balloon as a result as well because a movie stuck in development longer than planned is not a cheap proposition.

I'm glad I wasn't at my computer when I first saw this news. My knee jerk reaction was frustration and "this movie must be in trouble", but after thinking on it a bit, I'm more optimistic.

I'm not really a gamer, but this quote applies to pretty much any form of art:

    a60fe56627421d005b45d06c4e08dbf5.jpg

I'm a believer that deadlines and time crunches are a major enemy of creativity. Too many movies have ended up being mediocre or flat-out bad because they were rushed. Frozen 2 and Rise of Skywalker should have been major milestones for Hollywood (the sequel to the beloved Frozen and the final Star Wars installment), but instead no one talks about them two years later. Both suffered from Disney Bob Iger refusing to delay the release date, even though they surely knew the stories weren't working. To me, that's a death sentence to creativity. I have less respect for that than anything Lorenzo has ever done. Even Black Panther's effects suffered from being rushed. On the flipside, most of us agree that Bumblebee benefitted from spending more time in the oven.

We'll get ROTB eventually. I'd rather wait an extra year, and have a finished product instead of a rushed mess like TROS. If ROTB is great, we'll be able to spend the rest of our lives rewatching it. One more year is totally worth that. If this delay is being done because the story isn't working, it's good they realize it and are attempting to make amends. If it's being done for pandemic/scheduling reasons, it still gives them more time to touch up things like effects, and to touch up the story through reshoots. The only thing being sacrificed here is our instant gratification...and in the long run, that's a pretty small sacrifice.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of that being said, this does totally kill any immediate hype and momentum. I was expecting marketing to start in the next month or so, and now it won't start for over a year. At this point we've seen pretty much everything we'll see from set photos, and I don't expect to see anything major for about a year (I'm sure there'll be some smaller announcements and some leaks).

Since there won't be much to discuss except the same tired topics like Mirage's altmode and the prequel/reboot debate, I might tap out of the fandom for a bit. I'll still log into TFW2005 to discuss other things like the Boba Fett show, but I don't think I'll be terribly active in the movie forums. I'll probably pop in if a unique topic comes up, but I don't see myself being as involved as I am now. I just feel like another year of discussing the same stuff and getting hyped for movie reveals at every Toy Fair/Comic Con/Super Bowl (only to inevitably be disappointed) would make me feel burnt out. But I'll still be around.

Bumblebee was also only half the budget, and released a whole 2 years before Covid with projections saying box office numbers won't be pre-covid level next year, with the pandemic still going on.
Lets not act dumb enough to say they are the exact same situations.
We already know they're stepping away from large films soon to go to streaming service.
It's where the whole "Don't let Disney get the rights" comes from.

Damn that's really disappointing. Hopefully it means a better movie but I've been waiting at the edge of my seat to get a look at Wheeljack's bot mode(and the rest of course but mostly Wheeljack) now we're probably not going to get a look at any of them for another year. That hurts. I guess this thread is about to become a desert...:tumbleweed:

Making a massive budgeted movie in this Covid-climate was a pretty bad idea in the first place.

Disney at least has Disney+ revenue. Paramount+ is doing well on countries without access to D+ but I don't think those are as good as Disney numbers in US.

In my country, the theaters are open now but hardly any visit... out of fear. Can't blame them and I can absolutely understand. Over the last two years, people upgraded their home entertainment experience. Regulars at theaters are too bothered to visit them now.

this terrifies me in every way ...
I mean, we've gotten too excited about this movie and now I'm afraid that they will completely change everything they've used ... I'm afraid of the worst.

    - Give more focus to humans.
    - Put aside (AGAIN) the Transformers.
    - A COMPLETE change to the script.

... on the other hand, if they really aren't going to change anything, I hope that at least this delay will help create more CGI sequences for the characters and refine some of the things they've already done.

I doubt that's the reason it's probably more of a scheduling thing cause why delay Star Trek 4? Also on the Disney side they delayed Andor and Ms Marvel to Q4 of 2022 for D+ (both were supposed to come out sooner).

Because Aquaman 2 and Avatar 2 release in the same month. They wouldn’t want to compete with sequels to a billion dollar film and the highest grossing movie of all time. The December release was never a set thing to begin with

I definitely agree with that but TBH I see zero hype for Avatar 2 or the other sequels (IDK why they green lit 4 sequels to Avatar).

Yeahhh I’m in the same boat lol. They still have potential to be huge movies though so it’s just safe to not release close to them
