I may not be completely won over by this live-action take on "Cowboy Bebop" just yet, but I'm not going to say no to this Corgi.

Ein is a star. No wonder Faye is trying to steal him away from the others.

I hadn't noticed the hex/honeycomb pattern on the back of her jacket before now. Probably doesn't signify much of anything, I just find it a neat design touch.

We already had a live action Bebop. It was called Firefly.

But yeah, I’m totally watching this thing.

I don't see Ed in this... :(  Or the ageless little psychopath.
I mean, I'll still watch it when I can.

What is the point if it's just a live action adaption of the existing episodes?

Because that way, you can skip the whole thing, because that means the whole show is just reruns. Reruns you can watch for free on Adult Swim.

Gonna disagree there I liked the French City Hunter movie, the live action kenshin movies worked pretty well, and Alita was decent as well. As for this sounds like they dropped the ball. Based on the trailer and statements from the faye actress, it seems they were only half trying to make an adaptation. Also some of the actors didn't take their parts seriously.

    Rurouni Kenshin says hello.

As does Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure and Boogiepop and Others.

Also, there are series that could work in live action, like Vampire Hunter D.

A lot of them have worked, the problem comes when westerners try to adapt these titles for a western audience. That is when it rarely goes well. It just ends up as fan fiction, high budget fan fiction, but fan fiction. Rurouni Kenshin is definitely a good example of these working. I've only seen the two on Netflix, first one is fantastic, second one was really silly and lame, but the first one (The Beginning) worked great, in some ways better than the anime did.

I do think there are some pieces of anime that could be adapted well, but these studios are reaching into the pile of hard to adapt ones, over all the easy/easier ones to adapt. I think if they were to start with something more down to earth, something super simple, like idk, Gunsmith Cats, Hollywood would be far more successful at their adaptations. Instead they decide to do something far more difficult, and possibly impossible to please the fans with, and choose Cowboy Bebop. They have chosen an uphill battle with this adaption, and can never even hope to succeed at meeting the expectations of fans. At least not at this current time. Maybe 20 years down the road, when anime adaptions have turned out more positive results.

At the risk of pissing people off.... I keep seeing/hearing how Bebop is one of the most influential animes of all time. I've seen all of CB, and I do like it a lot. But I don't quite get how it is worthy of such praise.

Why isn't there a shit-ton of Bebop merchandise out there. Or a bunch of pop culture references to it. Or massive amounts of CB cosplay. Is it underrated? Then how can it be called one of the most influential?

I know that japanese audiences probably give zero fucks about the series, and that it is americans/western audiences that love it. I get that. So what exactly did Bebop influence? Samurai Shamploo, Firefly?

I can't help but feel that people hold it in such high regards, because it was one of the first anime series that they ever watched and enjoyed. So... the series influenced a bunch of western fans into liking anime. Is that it? If so, then ok fine.

To me, amazing does not equate to influential. Akira, Astroboy, DBZ, GITS, Eva... I don't have to like those, but I can clearly see how influential they are. I just fail to see CB being anywhere near that league. But I would be happy to be convinced otherwise.

It's not really something that deserves it's praise, but Cowboy Bebop fans do tend to raise it up higher than it actually is worth. Which is the problem, which is why it has been set to an impossibly high standard. Which is why Netflix should never have attempted adapting it yet. Should have waited 10, 20 years from now.
