Good. She's overrated anyways. Rogue Squadron: Lucasfilm Reportedly Loses Faith in Patty Jenkins After Wonder Woman 1984 Flop
I wonder if the film will be set in the timeframe within the original trilogy or between ROTJ and TFA like the X-Wing novels.
In the announcement the phrase 'beyond The Rise of Skywalker' was used, but that's slightly ambiguous.
Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars Movie ‘Rogue Squadron’ Delayed (Exclusive) – The Hollywood Reporter from the rumor mill: @bigscreenleaks on Twitter: “Now that it's delayed, it's a good time to mention that the film wasn't just delayed because of Jenkins' schedule, but that production on Rogue Squadron isn't going well behind the scenes. It was never going to be ready to shoot next year.”
I've been wondering about this movie's fate since the Wonder Woman 2 backlash, and now it sounds like yet another Star Wars movie that's having behind-the-scenes problems. I kind of expect this to go the route of the Boba Fett movie, and be reworked into a streaming show with someone different somewhere down the road. Or just remain indefinitely on hold and never materialize like Rian Johnson's trilogy. Honestly, Rogue One would lend itself better to a game. I'd love to see a modern Rogue Squadron game with similar controls to the original, but modern graphics. That way they could still make it about Luke's team of pilots. Or just do a flat-out remaster of the original game. A live-action movie is going to face the problem of having to write around Luke. I'm sure they'll create a new leader (or maybe use Poe post-TROS), but at that point it's really only Rogue Squadron in name.
Well that's no big surprise. I easily assume the pandemic is hell for anyone trying to operate on optimistic scheduling.
I mean, whats the point if its set BEFORE? We know the NR falls and whatever efforts Rogue Squadron does will be for nothing. At least if this is after RoS, we can at least have a sense of discovery to what the heroes will do in a galaxy where the two biggest power blocks (the FO and the NR) are gone.
Well it’s a bummer, but not surprising, that this is on indefinite hold. I’ve been pretty patient with Kathleen Kennedy but this feels like the last straw. She seems to be incapable of piloting projects into completion. How many cancelled projects is this now? The RJ trilogy, the Benioff and Weiss trilogy, Rogue Squadron, and Rangers of the Republic. And Obi Wan and Boba Fett had to be reworked into D+ shows. Oh and isn’t there supposed to a Kevin Feige joint too? Lucasfilm needs to not announce until they have their stuff locked down. The MCU had some early on setbacks, but nothing like this.
Rian Johnson trilogy: who knows, he's happily taking that Netflix money to make more Knives Out movies Beinoff & Weiss: *gestures vaguely at Game of Thrones after they finished adapting the books and had to create original content* Rangers of the Republic: *gestures vaguely at Gina Carano who was rumored to be the star before she was fired* Kevin Feige: no official announcements, just rumors I think originated by one of the dozens of YouTube channels that claim Brie Larson has been fired from Star Wars every other weem
Here’s the thing though, when that many things fall through it’s pointing to a larger problem. Either Lucasfilm isn’t locking down the creators, or they’re announcing the projects way way too early. It’s pretty much becoming an internet meme how few projects from Lucasfilm get to even the shooting phase.
The above movie announcement isn't even a year old and it looks like the project is already canned. I'm guessing it's a The Book of Henry situation on the heels of Wonder Woman: 1984's bad reception. It seems Lucasfilm just has the worst luck when it comes to picking promising directors, whose subsequent project falls completely flat. Whatever the next film is, it has to be a major win for Lucasfilm.
Clone Wars: axed because Disney was horrified at the prospect of spending over a million an episode for a "cartoon" Rebels: all four seasons as planned Force Awakens: idk how production went other than there being lots of leaks Rogue One: month and a half of reshoots and replaced the composer with six weeks before release Last Jedi: on schedule, little to no leaks Boba Fett movie: originally planned to be announced with Josh Trask as director before Fox fired him from Fant4stic, John Mangold was rumored to be negotiating with studios to be director before the announcement of the Mandalorian Resistance show: two seasons as planned, and had an open ending because they didn't know how Episode IX was gonna go Solo: main star tattled to KK about how bad production was going and she replaced them Mandalorian: possibly developed from the canned Boba Fett movie as one of the earliest concept arts was Boba Fett holding Grogu up to a clan of Mandalorians Kenobi: movie turned into a show Rise of Skywalker: I don't need to say anything about it Clone Wars season 7: went as scheduled Mandalorian season 2: pandemic Bad Batch: also went as scheduled what did I miss?
Like, seriously! I bet when this film comes to fruition, no one here will admit any flaw in the premise of their lack of critical thinking.
Yeah, seems like a lot of the stuff we were originally supposed to get that would take place around/after the ST has been quietly left to fade into oblivion.
The only thing I want from the ST era right now is a film with Finn leading a stormtrooper revolution on Coruscant using ideas based off of the leaked DOTF script and concept art. The idea has so much potential: -Giving Finn's character better treatment via leading role as well as possibly donning custom trooper armor and a lightsaber -Seeing Coruscant again -Solving that whole issue of First order troopers being indoctrinated since children and giving them new lives/a cause to fight for -Cool new custom trooper designs not unlike what was once seen for clone armor during TCW -Clearing up some of the loose ends from the end of IX mainly the fact that entire armies are still out there running amok in the galaxy
