Back in the UK in 84 we had 4 TV channels and VCR"s were as rare as hens teeth I can"t remember if the cartoon was out on TV here that year so most transformers media was the comics, colouring books(mostly g1 box art) reading books(both boxart and toy based) so maybe thats why there is such a fondness for the comic at least it is with me.

If you visit that site, things are going up, not down. You obviously need to do more research on the topic...

I loved @edgecrusher ’s reply to this, but I just wanted to add …

You know you don’t have to collect/watch G1 right? There are other TF fiction(s) out there that aren’t 22 minute toy commercials trying to appeal to 8 year old boys.

Apologies if you already do consume other TF media/fiction, of course. But if not, try out the IDW books and likewise figures from MMC, G-Creation’s and Planet-X.

Hey @BB03, somehow your photos were out of order. I rearranged them for you. It’s cool that you expanded the TF lore by showing us how Cybertronians reproduce. Excellent pics but I swear that I am only here for the articles.

I'm gonna need full transformation to and from alt modes, no cutaways, no fake parts, and if this is some kind of disgusting non-toon centric aesthetic I'm taking my monthly $2 back and filing a paypal claim!

You can fit something like 12 or 16 Legends Soundwave cassettes in MP13. I took a video of them all showering out once, but I can't find it now.

That’s fine, and all. I have no problem with enjoying the comics. I had the first dozen or so issues myself back in the eighties. My point is just the comics were “amateur hour” for marvel. It wasn’t their best efforts.
For me, there is zero reason to want “comics perfect” version of characters. It’d be no different than wanting animation errors to get their own masterpiece treatment. A lot of the coloring choices for the comics were done for visual differences of characters and to be cost effective. Purple Soundwave would be great for a $20 Voyager toy, but I doubt many at all would buy it at $260. Hell, the diaclone and G2 Iron Dibots shelf warmed for ages upon release.

I’m not knocking the desire for them, merely the financial sense behind committing time and resources to them.

Sorry, best I can do is beautiful paint, decent articulation, plenty of diecast, and complete toy-accurate sculpt. For $200.

LOVE that pic of Rumble coming out of his chest!

One major advantage that the comic had over the cartoon in the UK is that you didn't have to get up at, like, 8.30 AM on a Saturday and sit through Timmy bloody Mallet in order to read the comic.

    Unless you were REALLY unlucky.

One major advantage of the cartoon is that you didn’t have to read because we all know that reading is for squares.

I tried reading the Marvel comics a few times throughout the years and while I found some of the characterizations, plots, concepts interesting, I could never really lose myself in it. More power to the comic fans getting what you want but it just wasn’t for me.

He looks so plain and underwhelming in pictures, where's all the linework?

    I was on that.

    It's a word association game
Musn't pause or hesitate or you get a bash on the head like this, or like this
The one with the most bruises, loses
Look at each other and say Bleuuh
Look at the audience and say Bleuuh
    Look back and say Bleeuh

Not a high point in my life.

Toon accuracy aside, I rather prefer the simple, deco look. That was the whole reason I pre-ordered him way back when he was still just a render.
