Completely up to you and what you’re in it for. If you really like the bot itself, order em. If you think you are in it for the combiner and don’t know if it’ll be what you want, maybe wait on it a bit.

Dang, I missed the pre-order window at AE (thought it was until the 14th of Nov.). Anyone from Europe have experience with HobbySearch (taxwise)?

I'm in a similar position, I've got my pre-order in with AJP, I really like what I've seen of Shouki so far but I have serious doubts about the combined mode. If Shouki ends up being as good as he looks in photos, I have no problem keeping and enjoying him and perhaps one or two other trainbots. No need to get the entire set.

Never used HobbySearch but I did do a comparison of AJP vs. AE and Amiami. Assuming you will get fully taxed (this isn't ShowZ after all), the price difference between AE, Amiami and AJP might not be as expected.

AJP is currently roughly €147 to my doorstep.
AE, Amiami would be at least €130 delivered, without tax. Not sure about NL, but here I'd have to pay roughly €30 on top of that.

If i can help, i was in your shoes for this preorder (reading your nickname i think i've figured where are you from, lol) , but some folks here convinced me to go with AJP:

    1) Fast delivery and super tracked shipping
    2) Guarantee
    3) Tax already payed, without the customs lottery (i really don't know how they calculated the amount of money, every time is a surprise)
    4) The shipping problem with Japan here.

I agree with you but I think you meant to quote the other guy.

The thing is AJ doesn’t seem to tax me in advance. Not sure if this is a preorder thing (I don’t use AJ generally). Pre-tax it’s 19500 yen (~152 euro).

Normally I’m not too bothered with preordering MP’s (I often get them through China) but I’m not sure about the availability of this one later on.

Get him if you've got a lower price locked in. By the time you get him hopefully pics will be out of some of the other team members. Look at him when you get him and if you don't like him, sell him MIB

I've got a pre-order with AJ. While I am not convinced about the combiner, I am really liking this guy as an individual bot. I'm good with Shouki being a solo train bot if I decide the combined set isn't for me.

    That seems weirdly high.

This is what I see before tax:
    upload_2021-11-6_20-0-7.png

so ¥17913 delivered pre-tax. And then when I go to check out (delivery to Germany) it lists ¥19224 which is the full amount, delivered and taxed.

Good idea. Mine is 19516 yen in total, so with taxes and postage. And I've decided to keep my Amazon Japan pre-order. I like Shouki and if Raiden ends up disappointing, I can always display the individual bots or display Raiden on his own for example.

I see the 16,034 only on the item page. Upon checking out the price changes to 17637. I mean, I could assume that’s because tax is added but usually there’s a separate row that mentions the amount of taxes (usually below shipping). Plus, now there’s a disclaimer below:

Oh well, I suppose only AJ can tell me this.

I think you need to go to the next step (if there is one for you before agreeing to the purchase) that calculates the actual shipping and taxes for the item.
Edit: I may be wrong, I just tried it myself and this is how that page looks for me.

    @yvk2000
I just went through this with my 3 Shouki preorders at AMJ. Korea has an import tariff of 10% on any purchase over $150 usd. I preordered the 3 when they were about $160 each and had that 10% added on them. Then the price lowered to about 148$ and the import fee was still on there. I canceled the orders and ordered again and the tariffs were gone. If you have tariffs on your order they’ll stay there until the item ships. They won’t go away once they’re on there. You’ll be charged the full amount and in about a month you’ll get a refund if the item lowered enough to warrant it.

People need to know what prices they’re allowed to import and how much the tax is. If you get taxed on everything no matter what then there’s no use trying to play around to get cheaper toys somewhere. Just go through a company like AE or RK. They don’t declare full value. You’ll need to pay everything upfront at these places so that’s one drawback. RK also has very high shipping. That’s the second drawback.

I've got him pre ordered at the moment, but it's at BBTS since I'm still not completely sure if I want him or not. The figure looks great, but even the $160 or so from Amazon JP is a lot to swallow, even moreso for the $220 I'm currently paying

Thanks for checking. So I got back from chatting with AJ and it seems that the import fees deposit (upon checking out) is just included in the price for some EU countries, but not for others. Edit: but the end result is the same, namely that you do pay the import fees (just that in my case I don’t get to see this amount listed separately anymore).

I do want to ask: why is the base price for you only 14,576 yen?

The price is before the 10% local Japanese tax.

Thanks. So it seems also the pre Japanese tax price shows up for some citizens and not for others.

It’s basically try your luck and go from there. Still strange that Amazon doesn’t calculate the tax ahead like ebay does
