It has the same level of detailing as other Generations figures, you can see the the greebling all over the figure.

The washed colors is also most likely because of too much light exposure during the photo shoot. The final figure's colors may be a bit more pastel but it won't look as pale as these photos make it seem.

oh fair enough - I think the point I was making, was the duller color scheme PLUS the lesser sculpting were combing to give me the "blah" :D

also reiterating that I don't think he's bad in really any way, just wish he was a bit more interesting. he's like the definition of average in my eyes. doing everything "ok"

I feel (and maybe I'm wrong, I'm not counting panel lines) like he and Wreck Gar are noticeably "smoother" looking then most recent CHUGs - I'd rather where they're at then the insane greebling chaos of Seige, but most of CHUG has had very solid "goldilocks" level of detailing - just don't want them pushing into MP Starscream/Cliffjumper levels of Sunbow lameness. Like I said too, it may just be the colors - and as you noted - the photography washing out the detail a bit giving it that impression.

aside from the wonky pin-head on that mold, I actually prefer just about everything about it in robot mode - I really do miss the days of creativity in the line.

I can move my ER Starscream with the other seekers and put this one sitting on his throne in my Starscream display with the others around him.

I really like my Legends Perceptor with the TR face (yellow eyes). He’s currently with my Transformers #17-18 mini-display. Not sure what I’ll do with this…

That Perceptor takes a complete crap on the TR and RTS toys.

Exactly, so many people here don't seem to realize a lot of these G1 characters haven't gotten a proper G1 figure since G1. Earthrise Optimus Prime was the first G1 OP with a trailer ever and the only G1 OP released before that was Classics Deluxe and Voyager OP both of which had their share of issues.

Considering that if the G1 had more articulation, he'd still be absolutely fine today.

The Generation (truck one) has issues with looking parts in place being the worst of it, and the TR's version biggest flaws are the cheap plastic and horrible gaps that makes it look and feel cheap (he barely stands).

I have them all, and getting this new one simply because I really like Perceptor for some reason that even I can't explain, and that I'm hoping that it will be a solid figure in hand. I'm already disappointed in the hands/arms gap, and that the feet/tank section are lacking the "pull-out" part, so I'm hoping that it's just mistransformed and that there are some such sections. Otherwise it sucks for that.

Something I do wish they did with preceptor is painted the tank treads. I get they're going for animation accuracy, but the added tank mode already breaks away from that. May as well commit to it

Completely the opposite for me, trying desperately to offload mine for at least enough to pick up Kingdom/Legacy Blaster.

the difference is that DNA and Dr. Wu aren't international conglomerates, and cant afford to price accessory kits any lower.
the idea that coronation starscream's additional parts cost $20 to manufacture/recuperate design costs is laughable

I absolutely agree with your point about Starscream's sameness from ER -> SS. But why should Studio Series be considered as a premium line? The price is similar to the Generations line (at least here in Canada), just that SS figures aim to look as accurate as what we saw on (movie OR small TV) screen at a similar production budget as Generations. It's not any more "premium" than Generations.... I welcome a true Premium line with much better/accurate paint & engineering and we need to pay a bit more.

To me, a good "premium" line strategy would be what Hasbro did for Hot Rod. Really good engineering, articulation, and accessories, with a reasonably elevated price (DLX size @ Voyager price) that absolutely justified the jacked price. On the other hand, Siege/ER Shockwave, Astrotrain, Rodimus Prime, and leader OP wasn't as justified for their jacked price as Hot Rod. Shockwave/Astrotrain's useless extras just needlessly padded the price up from an (albeit awesome) Voyager to Leader. Rodimus simply is not as good an effort as Jetfire and especially Skylinx in comparison. OP's trailer is way too simple (and short) and the lack of a jetpack, axe & Wheeler just felt to me more like a rip off than not. In all these cases (to be fair, Rodimus' trailer is fairly good, but so stupidly designed that none of the 5mm holes can help store his gun in alt mode! Make the rifle like the 1st MP did would solve the problem and increased the play value). Make no mistake, all these bots are really great, I'm just disappointed with those lazily designed, zero effort accessories.

The engineering of many of the WFC/SS figures show that Hasbro CAN do mini-MP at a mini-MP price. If Hasbro is really willing to put the R&D money, I'm sure Takara can deliver in the engineering (I'd argue Takara do mini-MP BETTER than MP of late). And I honestly think that Hasbro can take back a ton of money from 3P with this strategy.

SS86 Hot Rod is exactly the kind of example that explains why I consider it to be a more premium line. Or maybe premium isn't the best word. (Though, you said yourself, he's at a height normally associated with Deluxe, at a Voyager price point... though on the other hand, classes are budgets, not scales, and as you also point out, there are also Deluxes at Deluxe pricing in SS, so that probably doesn't really support my premium labelling either.)

I just mean that the emphasis of Studio Series seems to be on both accuracy and quality engineering and molds. Whereas with Generations, while there's plenty of quality engineering don't get me wrong (it's actually my favorite line personally,) they have a lot more room to fudge things and reinterpret them in my mind. I'm more forgiving of issues and inaccuracies there.

Either way, my point is, for me, it's its own thing and I don't want molds from Generations bleeding into it personally.

Hopefully, since BBM Wheeljack, Ratchet, Brawn, Soundwave (voyager) and a voyager Junkion are in this exact wave.

These new stock photos really do Preceptor justice compared to the 3d renders.

Thanks. I appreciate some people want the clean Sunbow look, but if I'm going to have a "New Destruction Emperor Starscream" to exist for more than twenty seconds, I want him to go full ham. Maybe I'll get the reprolabel set or something to make him be GLORIOUS!

I would have liked to see screamer have some remolded, planer looking sculpt to both look more toon accurate and differentiate it from ER. I still think he looks good though, as does Perceptot.

It does? It’s basically just the Titans return figure but with less play features.

It doesn't matter if the figure looks too simple and cheap, what matters is that it looks EXACTLY the same he was from the cartoon 40 years ago. Any kind of improvement from that point forward, whether it's a different shade of paint or subtle different detailing is a desecration to our childhood. So glad Hasbro dropped all the nuance renditions they were doing during Siege and went all out G1 in next toylines.

    Love that Perceptor.

Earthrise Starscream doesn’t fit in with the aesthetic of Studio Series at all. Doesn’t look like it belongs in any way.

Someone said earlier they wish they’d made the panels more plane to fit in, that would have been a different story, but this is an easy pass.

Hopefully is not. The TR figure looked really good but it was a mess to play with, especially because of the shoulders that didn't properly lock and the floaty knees, I think it was just as bad as the RTS toy in terms of polish.
