Man, I totally missed it.
That's on me.

Honestly, while I think the voice work for Beast Wars Megatron is by far the worst among a cast of terrible performances, I wonder if even David Kay could make a sycophantic Megatron "work".

 

I watched the entirety of Kingdom at 1.25 speed through the Netflix Web App and I will die believing that the original season was put together as 15 minute episodes. I think something switched at the last minute for Siege and they slowed it down to get to 22 minutes and then just stuck with that for the rest of the show. At 1.25, they do not sound sped up. They sound like humans speaking at a normal speed. The action feels more explosive, the gesturing and character movement feels more natural. Everything just felt right.

 

Kingdom could have been the best of the trilogy but killing off Elita and the rest of the Cybertron crew as an afterthought was such bs and steered it all down the crapper. This trilogy was a waste of time.

 

Yeeeeeeeep, I hopped off that Rooster Teeth train full sail, and I hope to heaven they're not involved anymore.

 

I'm not exactly sure if Kevin Smith being attached to something is exactly a sign of quality. I love Dogma, Clerks, and Red State, but the man's name has been on some crap too, like Jersey Girl, Cop out, and Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie.

I will agree though, that I'd like to see another animation studio take a crack at the next trilogy. Powerhouse would be nice, Studio Trigger would be God Tier.

 

I just gave that a whirl on the first episode, and damn - there's some things that look a bit janky, but overall, it definitely flowed a lot better. The only voice that didn't quite work was Elita-1, but that's partly the voice actor. How weird.

 

I would struggle to blame Roostee Teeth for this specifically. Beyond the fact they didn’t set Gray Haddock as the showrunner. Long held the opinion this was a series contracted when it was going to be under machinima which is why it’s got DeSanti and Kretsic and the same voice director.

I honestly feel the cast is fine to great. Beast Megatron’s actor is perfectly fine. But he’s being directed to give a performance where you can hear his voice straining to hit.

 

Not to get too political, but Jersey Girl is Good, Actually.

 

BW Grimlock as Dinobot reborn. I like that. So many options dangling in front of them. I'm beginning to think they need a WAY better team running these shows.
