too much of Marvel Megs & Galv II's alliance
from the UK comics. Although, admittedly, in
like the most surface level way is it similar.

You keep overlooking the details and only looking at the surface level. If you're not interested in having an actual conversation about this then there is no need to continue it.

I liked how Roberts explained them referencing earth culture to the usual where writers just have them referencing earth culture as if it's their own.
But they did it far more in mtmte than any other comic I know. Plus, both major writers during that time acted as if culture is some magical thing that only humans are capable of. Which was utterly lame.
You want creativity? So do I. Would love witers exploring Cybertronians interacting with other spacefaring races and referencing their cultures.

& watched so much TF content that I know the formula.
What I'm looking for is a series which breaks from tradition instead of just tripling down on nostalgia.

I remember this situation. He misled people into thinking he was being sponsored by Hasbro. In reality, he engaged in a partnership with online retailer, Zavvi, who sent him some stuff to review. PvP has never had a sponsorship or partnership with Hasbro.

 

You're just reciting the challenges. My point is always that it's just the goal that I think Hasbro to strive for. Even elbows for Swindler. Toy tech doesn't happen over night, and Hasbro has proven that they can work around physical limitations.

 

I've been a fan since the early 90s and done the same. You are looking at "the formula" in a very superficial manner. The details are what makes the stories different. Using your level of comparisons, Animated was nothing new because it followed the basic formula of Beast Wars by having smaller crews and having the good guys squabble on a consistent basis. On a superficial level one can always find comparisons within stories.

 

That's the price you pay for being a lifelong fan.
Your familiarity with the franchise means that
it becomes increasingly harder to surprise &
excited you.

 

Ahh, but TFA Prime & Primal are quite different.
Animated Optimus was written like an awkward
sitcom dad. Struggling to say the right thing, bring
everybody together. Optimus Primal was like an
EXPERIENCED dad. Him being "new at the job"
was something they dropped pretty early on.

 

The only G1 combiner that I felt CW/UW didn't do justice was Menasor, and that was only because of Motormaster. I really would have loved to see another take on a CW/UW compatible Motormaster rather than them scrapping the whole Scramble City concept.

 

Also, the good guys squabbling concept isn't anything
new. Every superhero show ever has dipped into it. Hell
as corny & schmultzy as G1 could be the cast still sniped
at each other pretty regularly. Springer anyone?

 

So you can focus in on the details when you want? Gotcha.

Like it or dislike it, there is plenty of creativity going on with the franchise currently. It's just not creativity you want or are willing to give credit to.

As the "LGBT overtones" I'll concede it got
pretty obnoxious near the end. I'm in no
rush to see Anode & Lug again. That said

TFA Omega Supreme is the shipformer last minute rescue
done right. He had a history, character & furthermore story.
The Ark? Nothing. It comes across like a crappier
shallower version.

My issue with Bulkhead is probably different from a lot of those vocally against it--at least from what I've been reading. I LOVE the idea of taking him and creating a G1 version; something that fits with everyone else. I just think the robot mode is rather lazy, for whatever reason that might have lead to it. I've been wanting a G1-ified version for a while, and this one just feels so lack-luster. I can't necessarily say the figure itself is all that bad, just that a G1 Bulkhead deserves better. On that note, I'm probably going to be more interested in what potential repaints could come from this mold. I'm hearing some kind of Prime is going to be one of them. Though I have a feeling once I see the truck mode sitting next to everything else and see how small he is overall, I might not be as interested as I'm thinking I would be.

But I do appreciate the overall creativity in bringing some new or reimagined characters to the front. I just don't want lazy, Prowl-bodied, Smokscreen-headed Barricades and the like. But even if I don't like all that they make, I still grab one here and there that I like. And honestly for me, more reimagined Action Masters that are more than just someone else's repaints would be VERY welcome (but I'll take some repaints if they're done well enough).

 

I just wish the head resembled his Animated self.
