Welp, this is posted on Seibertron. Aside from the cab robot, my thoughts have been mostly on the mark:

"There are a few descriptions of the upcoming Transformers Legacy commander Motormaster toy and we will sum up what we have found online. This is from people who claim they saw the instructions and we recommend you take it with a grain of salt. Here is a summary of the different points written:

It will be a cab and trailer.
Motormaster himself will be the cab.
The Trailer becomes the frame for all the components to attach and combine.
The cars making the arms clip on while the legs are hollow rectangles for the cars to slide into, filling out the holes.
The trailer also becomes a base/turret for Motormaster to use when not combined. This is an homage to the G1 toy where Motormaster himself became a base.
This will not result in something clean/smooth like the G1 character model of Menasor."

What? That seems like it would hide the car.

 

Pretty much what I was expecting. Seems like the intent was to get close to the Sunbow model, but they couldn't quite seal the deal.

 

If this is legit, I guess that's money saved. I'm only getting ONE Motormaster. If his individual robot mode consisted of both the cab and trailer, G1 style, I would have bought two of him.

I don't mind how the combined mode seems to work, as long as it's stable and looks good.

If this is true then I am very happy as it seems to be what they did with Rodimus as a combo of the G1 toy mechanics and cartoon style.

Think of the legs as a box without a lid. The cars then attach on top of the hollow spot to act as a lid, so the legs are mostly hollow. This could mean that the legs are possibly customizable in appearance depending on how they attach to the legs and how Meansor's feet work/how much rotation they have. You could go classic Sunbow with the cars just hanging off the back of the calves with the car roofs on top, flip the calves around and go IDW style with the car roofs for the shins, or go OX/toy style and have the bottom of the cars be the shins.

I'm kind of wondering now if this isn't a pre-tool for Powermaster Optimus Prime, who would theoretically operate in a similar manner.

While I've heard various other rumors about future Commander class, it stands to reason Hasbro might try to find a way to stick their most successful character not named Bumblebee in a higher class.

 

Seibertron has this weird thing about taking info from this site's boards but never giving credit to the site or the user. I have no idea why though as it is painfully obvious to anyone who visits both sites can see. They will credit any other site but just not TFW2005. It is very strange.

 

Probably not, given how skeletal Menasor is compared to the chunky aesthetic of PMOP. Sure the concept is similar but youd need a whole new trailer

 

That would be like a C-frame. I was thinking of a hollow rectangle as a boxed frame.
