I played that game so much as a kid! I loved it. I was watching a playthrough of it just the other day and remembered just how good the boss fights are. They're probably the best of any TF game, even the Cybertron games.

It also has a killer soundtrack.

With inivincibility and infinite powerlinx Tidal Wave is very easy to defeat. Just keep shooting his head in recon mode.

If the Armada game is not best TF game, then it at least has to be second best. Huge levels, great combat, fearsome bosses, a vast array of Minicons to experiment and have fun with, a memorable and atmospheric OST and cutscenes that still amazingly hold up.

The game was also very challenging, even in normal difficulty. You truly felt in enemy territory with the variety of enemies, all smart and terrifying in their own way, roaming the map. I still have dreams of being thrown in a huge maps while hunted down by Decepticlone forces.

I did watch a bit of the show and my brother and I had a Megatron and Scavenger figure, but the PS2 games was our main exposure to Transformers at the time.

I wish Hasbro would dig up this masterpiece and remaster it. I don't think it needs a remake, as I think the graphics, voice acting and OST are part of the essence of the game, but that could be the opportunity to bring back cut content, add a new Autobot to play as (that would have to be Blurr) and an extra level where you get to face Demolisher, like it was originally intended.

During those lulls in my enthusiasm for Transformers, I’ll pop this game in & it reminds me why I love this stuff.

    Just a random tip:

When I’m going to fight Megatron, I free up a Mini-Con slot by not equipping the glider (Slipstream? I forget the name off hand). Instead, I’ll just drive off the edge of the volcano, and right as I’m about to hit bottom, I transform. Your character will do the “jump up out of car mode” animation and you’ll land without taking damage.

Now instead of wasting a slot on the glider to glide your way down the inside of the volcano, you can equip whatever else you want instead.

Don’t know if it’s common knowledge, but there you go.

Not much I can say that hadn't already been said by someone else here. What the game lacks in storytelling and character development, it more than makes up for with challenging gameplay, impressive graphics, great level designs, excellent music, and jaw-dropping cutscenes. Would definitely give it a try if I had a way to play it. Maybe I'll get myself an emulator one of these days.

If you get it with emulator then be prepared for PS2 emulators have got quite high system requirements. It depends on the game too and Transformers Armada isn't the easiest to run well.
Good luck! And use cheats! All hail them!

Man, do I ever have some fond memories of Transformers: Armada on PS2.

Never got Tataki, but videos of it show that it is trash.

I'll never understand, though, why Koei-Techmo doesn't make a Dynasty Warriors: Transformers game. They did Gundam, and it was awesome; Transformers is a property that just screams this genre to me. Use your alt-mode to traverse the map quickly, destroying armies of bots with iconic characters thrown into the mix as bosses.

Not to mention the insane potential for monetization via a near-limitless pool of characters to put up as DLC.

It is. There are tons of characters but it's repetitive and if the clones get to hit you then you're most probably sentenced to death cuz you can't hit back.
