Only partially; the entirety of Laser Prime's upper body is new. Only the legs and Matrix are carried over from ER.

 

Actually Laser Prime's lower legs are actually mild retools. Whereas ER Prime has the slats on his shins, Laser Prime doe not. But everything else in his legs from his hips to his feet is identical.

 

But either Laser or ER could form the basis for the cab and then slap that on the legs of their choice.

I'm starting to think it'll be Laser and we'll see them do something with that trailer.

Just wait for it to be front paged at this point. Considering it's very likely coming next year since it might be based on laser prime, I wouldn't expect anything for a while.

 

Laser Prime is based on ER Prime, though. So now that Laser Prime is revealed there's nothing really holding back a mold that would share the engineering of either it or ER Prime (or both).

And while it's not super common, we've seen some instances where exclusives get revealed before the mold they're based on (Botcon Ramhorn in 2016, for example).

Heck, had nobody known about Laser Prime, the kind of retooling we typically see in these would have left people thinking it was ER Prime anyway.

 

A more recent example (at least as far as official reveals go) is Mutant Tigatron getting a reveal before Tigatron

 

Ok.... Not sure what you’re getting at but again, if it's a long nose truck it’ll be based on laser prime, so we won't see it this year. Remember laser prime is scheduled for summer next year. They won't want a mold based on it to release that far ahead. It's happened in the past but recent hasbro seems to refrain from it.

 

Well if they pull a Netflix Nemesis and swap the truck and trailer around, we could, in theory, have a Laser truck with the ER trailer, especially since they have the same legs so it wouldnt be misaligned. Different trailer could result in different accessories since the axe and sword look to have specific storage in the tanker trailer whereas you can throw the Ion Cannon into any free slot in the ER trailer. Not a guarantee mind you, but I wouldn't write Laser out just yet

 

They could also tool out a completely different box-shaped trailer since it's a Collab and sometimes the design is dictated by the license holder.

Yup. And Mutant Tigatron doesn't even ship until next March. So they could reveal Amazon Prime after Laser Prime but release the figure before it. Or vice versa.

 

Could, yes, but I'm just thinking based on what's available right now for them to base it on. I suppose they could box off the tanker to give a more in depth and attractive base mode?

They turned Sideswipe in to the Delorean, they turned Jetfire in to the Blackbird, and they turned Onslaught in to Ecto 1.

They do this kinda thing when it comes to collabs. Heck, we're still trying to figure out who JP93 and Maverick are based off...if anyone.

 

I mean.... Jetfire already turned into a Blackbird before the collab....

But yeah they generally aren't afraid of remolding massive portions of the figure.

 

At this point I think it's been long enough that we can confidently say that Maverick was a genuinely new mold created for that crossover, with any other uses of the mold being subsequent after-the-fact retools of it.

Well yeah, it was the SS ROTF Jetfire that got turned into X-Spance

 

And Hasbro could turn Earthrise Ironhide into the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo, if that collaboration ever happens one day.

 

I'm not ruling either out really, at least not completely. I will say that the product description leans more towards Earthrise, but your right, they could swap accessories and such around.
