I think the biggest issue with the Hobbit aside from losing its original director was how terribly jarring the effect shots are.

the Lord Of The Rings was magnificent at blending practical and digital effects, the Hobbit features Legolas defying gravity in a video game cut scene and Thorin descending into a vat of custard…. Add the constant making it up as you go along rewrites (Yazneg, Bolg, Azog nonsense for one example) and it just lost all the majesty of the first trilogy.

The biggest problem was the ridiculous constraints put on the production. Lord of the Rings had over three years of pre-production time, Hobbit had SIX MONTHS. I'm surprised we got what we did with that little prep.

Hamleys still leading the way at £119 or circa £107 with various discount codes.

Transformers Toys Generations War For Cybertron: Kingdom Titan Wfc-K30 Autobot Ark Action Figure – Children Aged 15 And Up, 48 Cm

For bargainmax, argos, smyths, hamleys etc to have the ark and with it moving to clearance pretty quickly, hasbro must have made/imported a sizable production run this time and persuaded people to stock it compared Scorponok for example.

Argos will be moving to the pre christmas november toy sale clearance sale soon, tracking with sainsburys timing. It's late as looks like stock still incoming.

"Coast is clear, have no fear!"

    - The Transformers S04E11: 'Gnaw' (2/5)

I watched the extended Hobbit movies again earlier this year, and yeah, they were better than I remembered. Still an absolute mess, but there's a lot to love in there. The entire Rivendell sequence zigzags from sublime to ridiculous so often it's possible to get whiplash. The White Council? Superb. Thorin being a dick just to cram more forced conflict in there? Balls. Gandalf not being above lying to Elrond and manipulating him? Great. Elrond being pretty well aware that Gandalf is not on the level but going along with it because they're friends and deep down he trusts him? Even better. The dwarves being even worse guests than they were for Bilbo? Balls.

I actually found the middle chapter the weakest of the three. The third film was surprisingly strong (though a little baggy in some of the action sequences) despite being based on a really short section of the book. To be honest, if you go in expecting 'Middle Earth films-that-are-based-on-stuff-happening-around-the-time-of-The-Hobbit' then it works a lot better than if you expect 'The Hobbit: The Book: The Movie'.

And @DaftRaider, you take that back about my boy Bombadil! He's a merry fellow! Bright blue his jacket is! And his boots! Are! Yellow!

Thinking ahead to my sons birthday next year, maybe will get one of the larger play sets.

the ark seems great, and good price, but has way less interactivity and play features than say Titan Return Fort Max.
Also Fort max will link to his Optimus Prime base mode and some Of the other ones like Blaster (if I have the name right?)

I’m not buying just yet but trying to get a sense of the price point I should expect in UK.

I think around £300 (including postage) from US is the best I’ve seen for decent second hand on EBay. Does anyone know if there’s a better source for a UK/Scotland purchaser?

Here’s one I’ve been offered for £300 inc postage (won’t be buying yet).

    Thanks in advance!

You hit it on the head. It was made clear that we'd see more than just The Hobbit text in the trilogy, yet people were specifically in uproar that this wasn't what we got.

Personally, I look at all six films (extended editions, natch) as the Saga of the Ring of Power, and that's what I get.

Re: Old Tom "Ned Fanders" Bombadil... he's a great character in the chapters he's in in the book, but he's an terrible character in the book as a whole. And that's why he can't work on film. Just read and critique of Marvel films (especially Eternals right now) and how character development and 'what was the point?' come up so often. Tom is fantastical, but he serves no narrative purpose except 'magic?' to show the world isn't ours as we know it. The Cate Blanchett voice-over at the start of Fellowship does that in about 90 seconds.

Someone on here posted their sales thread the other day, from memory it was £250. I'm sure someone will remember who it was!

Its another #deskbot day and Tuesday so how about my second fave CW Combaticon toy, Vortex.

    That into wasn't needlessly hamfisted.

When Alpha Bravo appeared I couldn't wait for Vortex. He's fun, looks great and fun to transform.

£300 for TR Fort Max? I think that is a very steep price in the current market. Should be able to get it cheaper. I think I seen on FB recently people offering at £250. Even then it’s a bit steep.

So, I’ve sold MP-39 Sunstreaker, and spent last night putting him back into Lambo mode. Now I’ll admit that the bot mode is absolutely stunning…. But that transformation, all the little panels, wing mirrors popped off…. Took me over an hour to get it right and by the end of it was really quite unenjoyable, which really isn’t the point is it!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not getting ‘out’ of MPs, but I’m certainly going to enjoy the mainline stuff more and just pick and choose the MP characters I want. Didn’t pick up the fragile mess that was Hound, nor Arcee and can honestly say hand on heart I haven’t had a ‘want’ for them or missed them either.

There’s a seller on Transformers UK Sales (TFUK) that is gauging interest in one that he wants to sell.

Edit: actually on at least 3 other groups but that was the first one in my feed lol

Thanks again - I am still quite new and finding my way around the places to check out/avoid. Got scammed by some site (bank refunded tho) so am being a bit more wary. Thank for the help!
