I’d probably be more interested if FT didn’t have a history of horrible transformations. If they got a new designer I’d probably be in on this for just the plane.

Given so many seem to be saying they don't really care or want this, I expect FT to move it to the front of the production line and push back everything we've been waiting even longer.

And then not make it in limited quantity like their other releases and we get another Spindrift.

Those are a lot of assumptions from a bunch of renders. Their Warpath had a realistic alt-mode also, was it to differentiate from the toon-accurate BadCube one? It’s probably how they got their name, Foolish Toys.

I think the only logical answer left is to shut down. These renders have once again shown that FT is incapable of releasing good products. Their history of constant failures point to the only viable option left. It’s over.

Yeah it's so weird, they're all over the place. Why are Hoist and Trailbreaker so chibi while Powerglide is so realistic? Personally I prefer the inverse...chibi minibot alt modes and realistic carbot alt modes.

I wonder which one they'll go with when they get to Windcharger...

This figure looks kibbly! Will he even have a waist swivel? Sometimes I feel like there's an A-team and a B-team of FT designers. Guess which this one was designed by, hehe.

I feel like Cliffjumper ended up somewhere in between for his alt mode.

Looking at the pics I think waist swivel depends on where the wings actually attach to the body which I don't think we can actually see in these images. There is also the possibility of a really strange central swivel of just the body without the wings/arms (maybe if it is a transformation point but not as an intentional articulation point I believe).

This looks extremely impressive from an engineering standpoint, particularly due to the mass shifting, but not super cartoon-accurate and probably doesn’t flow nicely like a Hasui-style transformation… the second point could be proven wrong in the future, though. What I don’t get is why they can’t stick with one style… they hop back and forth between Sunbow style and Hasui style aesthetics too much nowadays, which I’m sure is partly just because they probably have a backlog of CAD models saved up.

I’ll be interested in seeing the transformation a few years from now (which sounds sarcastic but unfortunately isn’t).

I get all the complaints here, there’s definitely some extra kibble and slight proportion issues because of the realistic alt mode. But…damn! This has been the first time in a while that I’m really impressed with the way everything collapses to form a smaller robot. It’s giving me motormaster vibes so I’m really excited to see the engineering in hand!

Yeah, that too. Which I prefer more than a fully realistic minibot alt mode, at least, but it still adds to the feeling of a lack of clear direction.

Maybe it really is just that they want to be different from the competition. I'm noticing that their characters with toon alt modes tend to have competition with realistic alt modes. While Powerglide never had an MP with a realistic alt mode. And maybe with Cliffjumper they predicted a super chibi alt mode from Takara and so went with a middle ground.

I just don't know. I think bot mode looks great apart from the feet being a little rough and the wings being too big. Not too bothered by the feet but the wings are REALLY tall. But it definitely gives off more of an "MP" vibe to me than DX9's, and I think it will pair better with other FT minibots, which are becoming very prevalent in my collection. The other big worry is just how big this sucker will be in bot mode, given the size of the jet and those massive wings. Scale is a little flakey for these later season minibots but he never struck me as a big character.
And this is what kills Alt mode for me. That's a crazily skinny plane, and while it may be realistic (no idea, but others seem confident) it's way off the reservation in terms of toon accuracy. More and more Toon accuracy is creeping in to MP and especially into FT, and then this throws in a realistic alt-mode. On the other hand it looks to be impressively large in alt mode and there's something kind of cool about a small bot turning into a big jet, if it actually is that small a bot.
Worst of all, I already have both DX9's and a copy of the KO (one for alt and one for bot). I'm halfway tempted to pick one up for bot mode (especially if it gets that nice FT paint job) but I'm just not sure. I'll keep an eye on this for now, and see if it gets further refinements. Usually, when an FT reveal receives this much pushback, this early, they'll take another swing at smoothing it out, if the design allows for that.
Honestly, I'm pretty happy with XTB's. I still think it's probably the best figure they've ever done? I struggle to think of another XTB bot that's been so good in every way.
It's clean and solid, the plastic is super dense and feels really strong and refined. The paint and colour are super bright and glossy. Even the accessories are fun, unique and not totally over the top. Plus it's got a great name... It's one of the only figures they've ever released which didn't really have any QC issues at all (apart from I think the beam-up accessory being a tight fit, and that's an accessory not the figure itself). FT may well be able to do as well, and possibly even better, but I'm not sure it's gonna be easy for 'em. Having said that, looking over my shelves I'm genuinely surprised to realise that I've only got one Klaatu. It's one of the very few bots that I genuinely liked that I didn't get a second copy for alt mode, and I have no idea why! So if FT does get around to a great Cosmos, I'll happily pick one up to pair with XTB's.

The only reason this thing is interesting to me is because it looks like an actual A-10.

Hmm…DX9’s looks more G1 toon accurate IMO.

As for size I went searching for screenshots out of curiosity. This is just what I found on Google, I didn't put much effort into it. The first one with Bumblebee has a line because someone did that for the DX9 thread (I just copied it from the Google Image Search without going to the thread to see who)

Alt mode is totally wrong. He’s supposed to be a chibi plane, not a real A10. Almost feel bad that FT will have to do a 2.0 on this, too, except they’ll probably make this toy for $30 and sell it for $230.
