I just love how people like you want so hard for some people to not get the Joe's they like. Speak for yourself. I loved the Wave 1 guys. I'm mature enough to understand that sometimes things change for the sake of gaining a new crowd. We'll see how long the ARAH swing can actually hold this line together. If the general population peters out then GI Joe is dead again and I'll gladly blame ARAH for killing Classified.
Ordered Spirit, Storm Shadow, Croc Master, and Scarlet Witch from EE. Easy peasy. Free shipping too. Will order 20th Cap from Amazon once I get a link. Also backing up Joe preorders on Amazon.
Yeah, I ordered a pair each of Vipers and BATs, and haven’t had it canceled yet (knock on wood). That’s all I wanted of them, so if it sticks I’ll be happy.
I seem to recall you being one of those complaining the most frequently on this thread about the cobra island stuff. ...actually you were ranting about the more widely available classified troopers too, for them not having the extra gun and accessory or two, yet still charging the $20 msrp. More grace for others, Less hypocrisy in ourselves.
And most people under 28 or 30 don’t care about GI Joe at all. It’s the people with nostalgia for the eighties Joes that have kept this brand afloat. It’s the reason that the 25th figures sold so well, GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man, all the best selling retail figures right now are all from OUR childhoods. We’ll vote with our wallets and we’re willing to buy and buy for our collection.
Hey, I'm not saying I AIN'T a manbaby either. But I'll draw the line when people say the line **ABSOLUTELY NEEDS** to adhere 100% to an old, classic look, and that it's somehow a mortal sin to actually want something different and new, god forbid that. Even when I was ranting about Combiner Wars, it was never that there were new guys replacing the old team members. It was that we didn't have options until Hasbro showed options. I won't excuse my actions then, and sure, I'd even call myself a manbaby then. It is what it is...it's a level of fandom immaturity to accept that things change and sometimes a breath of fresh air needs to be injected into fandoms, A fandom can only go so far with only an old crew. At worst it dies. At best it stagnates and never grows beyond it's boundaries. I actually want GI Joe to grow. But that means that we can't 100% adhere to an old look. If no one cared years before, I doubt those same people will continue to care. GI Joe Classified is still going on hype and the new-ness of GI Joe. The movie bombed. No one cared. Not even general audiences who don't have any investment in GI Joe cared to see it. Like it or not GI Joe needs to have something to break through a general audience and create new fans. Transformers did that, and it succeeded regardless of how good the films actually were. They did their job and look at where Transformers is now. It's at an age where fans of Bayverse are old enough to probably have their own incomes and want stuff to satisfy nostalgia. That was the purpose of Studio Series, after all. To state again that unlike others, I'm not the kind of person that'd deny other figures. I do have issues with portrayals of guys like Spirit and Quick Kick. I really hope that a classic Quick Kick doesn't get made, but I don't control Hasbro. I absolutely won't buy one if they did. I don't want my first non-movie Asian character to be a shirtless, barefoot Kung Fu guy. Tell me where the ARAH collectors were when GI Joe died in 2016. Or the massive popularity of GI Joe where consumers cared and wanted to keep the brand going. I'd LOVE for you to explain the goodness and how 2016 was such a great year and how Classified is an evolution of a line that has lasted unbroken since 2007. Sounds like a great story. Also Transformers literally owes it's modern popularity and success to the Bay films. To say that it's all old bastards like you and I keeping the brand alive is literal denial of reality. There's literally a whole slew of bayverse fans who were kids or teens who may or may not have incomes of their own. People who want a slice of that nostalgia pie. Hell, that's why the Studio Series line was conceived in the first place. It's why Legacy wants to celebrate Prime(though not too succesful in that regard). I won't comment on MOTU. It's a field I care little about aside from the handful of stuff I've gotten for nostalgia purposes.
No problem. My biggest pet peeve are people who say something is up on a site and never provide a link. They don't have to by any means, but anything to make this hobby easier would be greatly appreciated. Oh shoot, I have to update the spreadsheet, haha!
Something that ought to be understood is that this is a discussion forum. If you don’t like the way the Classified is going don’t expect this thread to be an echo chamber for you, same goes for if you’re the opposite and you love it. You speak loudest not by posting on a forum but by not buying whatever it is you don’t like. Messaging any of the designers on social media isn’t the right route either. The decisions to make the figure look a certain way came from the top. Your best way of showing that you disagree with any design decision is to not buy the figure and contact Hasbro customer service. You make enough of an uproar maybe someone will get in contact with you. There’s a myth that posting on forums will likely catch the eye of a lurking Hasbro designer or exec that will reverse design decisions made almost up to or more than 1 year prior, I used to believe part of it until I learned it isn’t true. Years back one of Hasbro’s Gijoe licensors actually sent out a product sample to someone due to their excessive public ranting online just to see if they would would give it a shot with an open mind. This doesn’t happen all the time but with social media now much more prevalent, who knows.
Transformers has been an evergreen property for Hasbro since it launched. There has been a toyline ever since, here and Japan. To say Transformers owes its popularity to Bay is just f*cking divorced from reality.
Maybe we all (those that grew up in the 80s with the toys and toon, and those that didn't), could benefit from rewatching some of G.I. Joe's public service announcements (PSAs).
