Add in how well Generations did for all that time prior to Combiner Wars.
I do have a feeling that the next cartoon is going to tie into the multiverse idea that Legacy is putting forth. I'm figuring that it'll tie into the last episode of Kingdom with Unicron. I'm a bit leery of the idea.

I think we are all still trying to figure that out! ;)
Seriously though it was just a mash up. You had combiners in the mix, plus titan master like Prime masters in pretender armor that just got tabbed in to slots that were supposed to boost a bots abilities. I've got all the Prime Masters, but really, they are just pretenders to me.

When I saw emgo’s reviews of potp, the tag line was “choose your prime.” And I figured that was the main gimmick but I never understood it properly.

I'm pretty sure they will be unfortunately. The ending was pretty open-ended to set up a sequel. It would have made sense to have Legacy take place in the future and have new bots born or old bots get evolved designs that all are or resemble characters from our favorite eras. The temporal/multiverse thing is getting a bit commonplace.

I wonder what started this multiverse craze? Spider-man is doing it (Even though I think they’re just trying to do a live action into the spider verse film), and there’s a sonic cartoon coming to Netflix called Sonic Prime (Yes I’m serious lol) which about sonic going through a multiverse.

You know what, I did forget that the leaders evolved from their prior self. But really there were only 3 iirc, Orion pax to OP, Hot Rod to Rodimus, and Primal to Optimal Optimus, as well as a Rodimus repaint. You could put a Prime master into the matrix. Cute class gimmick, but really didn't work too well.

Honestly, multiverse stories have been getting more mainstream the last few years. DC did it on the CW last year with Crisis on Infinite Earths and the Flash movie is going to do it too. Hell, Transformers already did it back in 2003 with the original Universe line and then again with the subsequent 2008 Universe line, though there really wasn't any fiction to go along with that one.

You nailed it, it's marvel. Spiderverse first and, rumor has it, the need to find a way to bring the fox marvel characters into the MCU. You can see the set up in Loki, Wandavision, What If, the new Spiderman movie, and Dr Strange 2.

And TMNT did it to with turtles forever and those 87 crossovers in the 2012 series.

Yeah I guess I answered my own question hahaha. Yeah multiverse stories aren’t rare, just becoming more common place.

Yeah it sucks a lot, it's on all ends of things too from what I understand. It's due to a lot of causes from what I understand. Some political, some natural, a lot COVID.

Yeah, to me it feels like they are beating it to death. It's like when Smallville did well and folks realized superhero shows can work again and you get 1000 of various quality. A multiverse story here or there is cool but not everything needs to be the Flash of 2 Worlds. There's even rumors that they may try to retcon the Star Wars sequels with a multiverse explanation. (I doubt it personally, but that's how obsessed folks are with the concept.)

So since this new prime is coming, I decided to look back at the deluxe g2 prime from a while ago and honestly, Idk why so many people hated it. Granted I don’t have it, but It looks like a cool modernized take on it. It seems to get all his design cues down as well.

The concept of the multiverse has existed for a long time in fiction, beginning both with books and comics. I think, though, it's the Arrowverse that kicked it off big time on our TV screens, with their crossover episodes.

IMO, G2 RTS Prime was undersized compared to what people wanted it to be. I suppose the lack of a trailer didn't help, either. I think the relative physical proportions might also have been an issue.

As for the latest version, I like the new Lazer Prime a lot more than the original G2 version. I did consider getting the old one back in the day, but I just didn't like the execution (especially not a fan of the Optimus Prime stickers for windows).

Ah I see. Ironically he’s not that much smaller than the new one so I guess I was just thinking from a design perspective. Sad thing is back then we could have gotten a solid 9” one if Hasbro wanted to make one.

(anyone else miss not having trilogies so we got more diverse toys every year rather than the same style over and over again?)
