If it was like the Rodimus hands where the finger can point I would miss it but the Prime and Hot Rod style just open up slightly to place the matrix in when these semi open hands look like they can do that too just fine. So instead of 4 small pieces of painted plastic with two metal pins it is just two pieces of molded plastic so that little bit did probably go to making the battle station an actual battle station.

 

Same, especially if they retool the bike mode to look more Cybertronian. (I'm one of those probably 3 or 4 people who is too bothered by scale to buy Earth mode bike bots.)

 

Agree. And it is also insulting to G1. “Blockhead” is not G1.

 

I mean, if you lose a gun to a figure that can't be dissassembled entirely, you only lose the gun. But if you lose a part of a weaponizer, you lose part of the entire robot. It was a neat idea but it's easy to also see why they ultimately moved away from it.

 

Kickback and Dragstrip look as accurate as they can get. I can't help but wonder if Dragstrip will be combined just by plugging into Menasor's legs to replicate the G1 sunbow model. I mean he doesn't have obvious connector ports.

Arcee looks a bit mixed for me. She does thankfully evoke a lot of her original design from Prime more then Bulkhead but even then I can tell that the mold's clearly meant for Road Rocket. Still she does resemble the original enough to work even as a retool so I'm not too miffed.

Laser Optimus is a win in my book!

Heck, I'd be fine with the purple Combat Hero paint scheme. Preferably both so us G2 fans have options. They could do one in the mainline and one in Selects.

 

can't help but think their design philosophy with Legacy is a bit flawed.

Like "hey we're finally acknowledging characters and designs from other parts of the brand....but we've whittled done 90% of the design elements that made them unique and interesting! Also the majority of the line is still G1!"

Maybe the Unicron Trilogy characters will end up better, but boy are these Bulkhead and Arcee designs depressing.

yeah maybe these will feel good in hand but there's a very cheap look to them. The Deluxe figures look closer in complexity to old Scout/Legend class stuff.

So is there still going to be bot mode scale this line or has that been thrown out?

I feel like I have absurdly low standards because I really dig that Arcee. Have no idea if she'll fit into my collection because I have a self imposed alt mode scale rule (if they don't look massively bigger/smaller then they should relative to Optimus or can fly, then it's a go) are enough to not to avoid buying too much. I also have a G1 Arcee. But I think if I were to have an Arcee riding in Optimus's trailer because their disguise sucked, then this is the better choice than Earthrise by far. Or maybe she goes in the future with BW guys and she's Arcee's descendant (and Rattrap's cousin.) She won't get to hang out with Bulky but he's going with Bumblebee and my custom Mega Construx human in my weird continuity composite gang. Too bad she has no real weapons, though. She really could have used her guns like Bulkhead got his wrecking ball.

Still hope for a Flamewar. She can hide in Motormaster's trailer.

Speaking of Bulkhead, can't stop looking at his upper torso. He's so thick I love it. That's honestly probably why the legs don't bother me because I zero in on the torso and head so much. Just hope his vehicle mode is big enough.

The best here is definitely Dragstrip, though. Maybe a bit too yellow but just look at that magnificent bastard. They even found a way to remove the CW port which makes me wonder if they will have the limbs scale with each other better (if I remember correctly, some were a little taller than others for at least other Combiners) but either way without the massive peg he should at least scale with other bots in the line. Disappointed in the forearms and hands blending together with no wrist swivels but hoorah for the ankle articulation. He looks less hollow all around than Skids too.

Those are really all I have to say something about. Laser Prime and Kickback look kick-ass, but I really need to be careful. Especially now that there's no plastic windows protecting the boxes so every Transformer I order carries the risk of a certain virus being on them so I gotta quarantine them.

Iguanus was one of the things I was most interested in seeing and he was spurned. Little annoyed by that.
