I mean, as a quick exercise, just look at that Skids art. There is NO way those shoulders and arms are fitting inside the car mode as-seen, and the hood chest shrinks in robot mode. Of course it looks nicer. It doesn't have to be a physical object.

 

But there are various strictly aesthetic choices that would have no effect on the engineering that were ignored on the final product. Bad choices were made here.

 

What do you mean, like WFC plus Legacy will have the entire cast?

 

Plus SS86, yeah it will be pretty much all of the original G1 cast with accurate figures (not MP accurate but pretty close). Then it's time for Transformers to get weird again.

Honestly, I think they were trying to replicate this without having a big piece just sticking out above his head.



Every Skids incarnation has placed either the windshield or the hood above his head. Honestly, Skids is a good example of why strict G1 accuracy is a monkey's paw.

Expect a shit show. It pretty much happens at every reveal.

If you take into account the characters who were introduced in the 2nd season of the cartoon but didn't get toys until 86 you can also add in the Aerialbots and Prototectobots. So we only need 6 more characters to complete the 84 line up and 9 to 19 to complete the 85 line up. Depending on how you look at things of course. Some people may not count the toy only characters, etc.

 

Yes!!! Needs much bigger arms, shorter legs, bigger body otherwise he really fails to capture the character at all. Take off the head sculpt and it could be any generic robot.

 

That’s so much better. Still not perfect, but changing the proportions really would help a lot

 

Before Kingdom, Legacy, and HasLab Victory Saber I would have thought the same thing but Hasbro has started to branch out more into strange eras of the franchises.

 

The windows not being able to be seen through would help hid how hollow the chest is as well.

 

To be fair that’s an easy solution with stickers or paint, still annoying though

 

I’m actually planning on doing turning two copies into hybrid Ironhide and Ratchets.

 

i can think of an exception: POTP Rodimus Prime. The sketch looked like you were meant to yank the head, waist and limbs off Hot Rod and just insert the chest into Rodimus.

 

Totally agree that these proportions make the design work so much better. The guy we have just feels a bit too lanky in the limbs, which 1) doesn't really fit the character and 2) doesn't mesh well with his monolithic torso.

 

Again, I don't think Skids looks bad at all. He's about on par with the deluxe Impactor in regards to hollow bits, and frankly he's better proportioned and looks to be more stable than the Thrilling 30th Skids. Much like with Bulkhead, it appears some photos make him look worse than he actually is.
