To be fair, Hasbro did say they were working to reduce plastic on the box with the new lines. Shockwave is just going green.

I saw this at target yesterday, it’s not really a repack, more like someone trying to steal 37C24B66-EC75-4C7A-9FDE-80ADF5A245CE.jpeg

I really hate how Hasbro nickels and dimes you. Of course, you have to buy the Headmaster head separately :(

Looks like Hasbro's use of less plastic is backfiring lol. Doesn't matter to them as they've already been paid by the stores.

OMG It's a new plastic syndrome where the toy disintegrates before you even buy it.

I don't know what's more sad, the repack or they straight up just left poor Daniel in the box.

Not sure if money even exchanged hands yet. Usually a Walmart type company can issue a purchase order. Hasbro sends product based on the purchase order. Once product has shipped Hasbro issues an invoice to Walmart. The invoice goes to the accounts payable people at Walmart and goes through payment processing. Payment won't even be processed until goods are confirmed to be received by Walmart. And depending on the payment terms they may have 30/60/90 days upon receipt of invoice to pay. There could be a huge lag from when product is received and when Walmart actually pays for it.

I remember hearing about Toys R Us being in trouble with Hasbro, Mattel, etc, because they hadn't paid their invoices when Toys R Us was starting to close down. All the money that was made during the liquidation sales had to go to the people Toys R Us owed money to I'm sure.

I wonder how long this will go on before Walmart forces Hasbro to change their box designs. I mean the toy is pretty much unsellable at that point and I guess Walmart has to eat the loss? Walmart corporate purchasing people can be pretty cut throat from what I hear. They may try to put the blame on Hasbro for being negligent with their packaging designs and force Hasbro to take the product back. If that happens I'm sure some heads will roll at Hasbro for screwing up.

Outstanding debt was an issue long before they even filed for bankruptcy. It had been going on for at least a couple of years prior to the bankruptcy and people kept fronting the product to them anyway.

Liquidation sale revenue has to cover payroll/operating costs. There are also bonus payouts to the store employees based on various criteria like how much of the profit margin was protected, fixture sales, and so on because trained employee retention is crucial. Once the liquidation discounts drop under the margin to support operations, everything is being sold at a loss. Eventually, the liquidation markdowns reduce the vendor's profit margin's down to 0% or less and then when that threshold happens to the manufacturer. Any liquidation income after operating costs is determined by what the court ruled during the bankruptcy proceedings. The food chain is essentially the lawyers & legal fees, then the company operating costs, then the liquidation company, and then the creditors (secured creditors must be paid first). The liquidation company is really the last spot in the food chain that is guaranteed to be paid in full because it's an employment issue.

Walmart and other retailers are responsible for protecting merchandise, it's not really the manufacturer's job beyond security tags found in some items which can be sidestepped and they wouldn't prevent this specific issue. That's why items are in lock-up, have spider wraps, are in magnetic jewel cases, and so on.

That would fail spectacularly. That having been said, Walmart has a well known history of forcing vendors and manufacturer's to meet it's cost demands under the threat of stopping all purchases from them. Historically, everyone has caved because at one point Walmart was estimated to be around 25% of their total business. I've never understood why anyone would cave to Walmart because if Walmart stops purchasing, people will stop shopping there and the demand will increase at other retailers. Clearly everyone was too impatient to wait for Walmart to bankrupt itself and for the demand to increase elsewhere.

The current global logistics issues will substantially weaken that purchasing power position though. Traditional B&M stores/chains are desperate for toys and will be more than happy to take over Walmart's allotment and dance on their grave. No one is going to purchase huge magnetic jewel boxes to put open face packaging toys in so, pressure will be exerted if the trend continues once someone has the purchasing power to force it. However it would be bad press for the retailer because it would highlight their LP division is incapable of preventing someone from stealing a $29.99 MSRP 9" tall transforming action figure.
