Playing the game once again. Had a 20th set in my cart but it sold out before I could complete check out. Sigh. Mega's entire production run is going to be scalped at this rate.
Hey, did you ever make any progress with that Skeletor-Corrupted Battle Bones? I just found a couple Drogons for cheap, so thought I might give it a go.
Not yet, still working on the Technodrome before I try battlebones, but I'm finally making some good progress on that.
It may be the pattern in the plastic for the GoT dragon. But in that picture it looks like super glue residue. The design doesn't look bad but the difference in color between the queen and the dragon may stand out quite a bit in person. Edit: Admittedly, I can't think of any sets immediately that use the parts you need cast in black plastic.
Don't waste your time: In other news, that Target Red Card Discount was still active for me today. It was hard to pass on buying up already discounted Warthogs for the price of less than three Heroes figures. Maybe I will finally build the boat. Shame that it's another damn Master Chief in the mix.
Been happening since 8 in the morning actually. Happened at 800, 930, 1000, and 1450. I was there for all of these. Twice I was able to add to cart and that's the furthest I've got. Two on Reddit were able to actually get orders in at 800, from what I understand.
Doubt it. I'm sure they make enough money on other things to make the bot purchases worthwhile. At this rate if stock keeps trickling in like this the vast majority of it is going into scalper hands. I'd say that while Amazon definitely carries the brunt of the blame here, if MEGA/MATTEL doesn't do anything to rectify the situation then I'd say they're guilty of contributing to this too. This set better be run in production until everyone is sick of it. EDIT: Just happened again at a few minutes ago
You say that but the prices are dropping in order to competitively stay viable options for those willing to buy. And they are still offering discounts to watchers on eBay. At some point they'll glut themselves to a point where they can no longer afford to sit on inventory that isn't moving. And it's obvious from the ongoing orders popping up that Mega is still filling Amazon's request for more. This secondary market will saturate itself to a point where the scalpers will abandon it. It's not like trading cards where every purchase is a blind pack chance. Everyone knows exactly what they are buying with this stuff. We just have avoid buying it for more than reasonable retail. Especially the stuff that is going to see mass retail release. Again, look at the MotU set. We know it's not going to see mass US release either anytime soon and it's now easily purchased on Amazon as a preorder despite once having a scalper rate of ridiculous prices. The Brute chopper and Wasp sets both initially sold out and are now readily available. So will the rest of it with any luck.
You say this but I'm not so convinced. Looking at the total factors here. This is an anniversary set. It's exclusive. It's a set made for a popular and long running video game series. The set itself received massive hype from Mega, marketed as "for fans," collaborating with Halo influencers for figure reveals. The inability for Mega/Mattel to negotiate for a wide release, relegating it to an Amazon release(Hell, they couldn't even get Gamestop to jump on it), and the trickle feed of stock issues is pointing towards a total disaster. The fact of the matter is that I doubt we'll see any price drop below 100. I'll be fucking surprised, and I'll eat a Transformers figure if it does. But I doubt event he most casual scalper is going to go below 100 dollars to sell this set. It's already a 50 dollar set and if you're not going to get at least 2x over retail then after fees then your profit is going to be pennies. The ONLY way this set is going to be reasonable(Variable for everyone, but I refuse to pay more than 70 for this set), is if it gets available for order for at least week before selling out. When you become the sole arbiter of stock when the item is so slow in coming out to market or only trickles out like this does, you have the luxury of controlling prices. I get what you and others have said about the MOTU one, but I think it's apples and oranges. I don't think the MOTU set, by nature, was ever going to be scalped for long. MOTU Heroes doesn't have the same draw, popularity, and hype as Halo does. I think the fact that Mega sacked MCX Heroes after this wave is telling. Fewer people cared about the MOTU set, and Mega themselves didn't really hype it up that much aside from telling us it's the last. But the Halo 20th set is a in it's own right. Celebrating not just Halo but Mega's long running collaboration with the franchise. Mega couldn't negotiate a better distribution deal with other retailers, and Amazon can't, or is unwilling to control how it's being sold means that this is an absolute disaster. A disaster that, call me cynical, I don't see a way out of unless you're willing to pay a scalper to get it.
