So, weekend musings...

Not that long ago we had a quick chat on what we're looking forward to in 2022 from Legacy/Studio Series.

How about 3P? I feel this is an area of the franchise/fandom that our thread mostly navigated away from post WFC, bar the occasional release here and there.

What 3P bots that are announced/in the pipeline are you looking forward to in 2022, and why?

It's a relatively lean list for me...

I'm looking forward to the last Cang Toys Predacons. -If- there's movement on that end I'm curious to see the MMC Protectobots, although I may not immediately go in on the set as their Bruticus had fairly loose combiner mode joints despite its amazing engineering.

Curiously that teal blue Tap Out X-transbots Cliffjumper deco has me intrigued. This looks just gaudy enough to be spectacular, and it looks like Cliffjumper is one of their better/safer moulds.

I've long given up on the FT combiners so no interest there besides curiosity.

 

If any mould was ever in need of being bigger, it was this one. But then again, if it had been bigger it wouldn't have been done up in these sumptuous colours for TLK.

 

Pumpkin is the black legged version right? Dang, for 200, that's tempting. If it's still hanging around at that price next summer, may bite. I've gone off 3p figures any bigger than deluxe due to their complexity not being fun (except for dinobots) but may make an exception for unicron. But bills and other debts need to be paid first.

Oh nice, couple of bits there I'd be interested in if i weren't on a purchasing hiatus now. If they are still around in a few months, and i remember, i may come sniffing back round.

As i said above, I've gone off 3p figures pretty much. Their complexities just aren't fun to transform these days. So while I'm keeping the ones i still have, imnot really interested in any new ones. Pkus, it seems to all be legends or mp scale. No chug scale and that's where my money goes.


Just watched this weeks lower decks. Hell of a great season finale. Roll on season 3 already!

I went for the upgraded rings (shown in planet mode, robot has original ones). Was £240 all in from showZ including faster shipping. I had no customs hold ups, and paypal pay in 3 helped to spread the cost. The transformation is pretty enjoyable to me, just follow a good tutorial the first few times. i believe Pumpkin is refined in places and is easier to transform. It probably will be re-released in original colours at some point, so you could wait for that, but doubt that will be anytime soon.

 

What I'm hearing is you need to set up a cookie stand at TFN. Whip out the red and purple food dye.   you'd make a mint

I've never owned the Convoy, but that megatron is an all time great.

Might be worth seeing if there is a cheap armada unicron going? One of the generations repaints with the g1 head? Might be cheaper and est less space. And definitely worth sorting out debts first man.

Tfc dominator megatron is about it for me. When 3p companies leaned hard into mp and legends scale they kinda lost me.

 

Theres not a lot of love of 3P in this thread tbh so I hardly talk about it. Especially MP 3P which gets bogged down in the price argument always.

But personally my 3P Waiting list long outweighs my official list. Especially with the amount of reveals from FT and XTB recently.

 

MMC not Deathsaurus is very interesting, and while I’ve heard there’s been delays and it’s overdue I still really think it looks spectacular. There’s also there evil cloak wearing IDW Prime repaint and I’m stoked for how that’s looking

I think everything else is too far off to get a pre-order next week, but happy to be wrong.

Optus Nox, because I want to see how that system of joints and posing works in person, and D-Zef Continuum as he’s a murder chicken from space and I really like that. I’d love the rest of the DJD, as MMC not Tarn is amazing but they are hard to find at a decent price without importing and getting hit with the extra costs. The third Party Devastators are always around, but it’s hard to tell if it’s a knockoff or legit and I’ve heard a few bad stories. So I think I’ll be picking up a few select ones that appeal, as cost is a factor

 

I don't have anything 3P on order because I've pretty much got everything they are likely to provide - even TT coming up with MP Skids means that pretty much the last Carbot I care about is now getting done.

3Ps more or less bursting their own bubble AND running out of stuff a big enough crowd are going to want is why a lot less of us are fussed about them - Darwinian survival of the fittest has culled it down to a handful of companies that don't interest me for the most part.

Even MMC who at least stuck to their guns and continue to make interesting stuff just can't get past that Cassie Sark design influence that means less of what they do appeal to me. Yes, I know it's kept a lot of their IDW line consistent, but to me the thin, trapezoidal limbs look dated and will never fit in with what now forms the bulk of my display collection - WFC.

Other than that it's just the odd Iron Factory release I'll keep an eye on - and there's a lot less of those these days too. Them opting to go for stylised-samurai designs means that's just money saved.

3P seven years ago was what was keeping this hobby vital, now it's not and Hastak are doing what they should have been doing - selling to me/most of us.

 

Only 3p stuff I have in the pipeline are Planet X Cacus, which is due soon, and Trans Arts Transmetal 1 Megatron. I'm sure something else will be announced that I'll want to mate with again though.
