I believe DA-54 is based on this figure from the Henshin Cyborg line, pre-diaclone. Cyborg Rider from 1972 (I think?) If you look closely at the following pic, you can also see that battle convoy v-Max’s platform lift borrows heavily from the henshin cyborg station CX-1 Look at the pattern in the background and the overhead “scanner”… a bit of brand stretch going on!
The lack of specific characters and media is actually why I love this line. I'm pivoting from Transformers, primarily because I felt trapped by stories, personalities, and concepts that are heavily baked onto my life since the 80s. I also got tired of the reboots, but bigger, then no smaller, but bigger cycle every 3 or so years. Don't get me wrong, I was thrilled by the Titans Return subset and for the most part the War for Cybertron series has been fairly solid, barring a few misses here and there, but 90% into it I just keep feeling "been there, done that". Diaclone gives you that "Universe" with a lore, but without the ties to characters (with the rare exceptions). @TogeAtama gave a good analogy of Star Trek, but maybe Star Wars could be a bit better in that they have really unleashed the extended universe. You have worlds, weapons, and lore, but can get beyond the original cast. (It actually makes me annoyed when R2-D2 or someone shows up and ruins it... Star Trek is starting to go this route of an extended universe more and more, but has the same flaw of "let's have Data appear", etc.) But, here you have the aesthetics of designs that meld well, a core concept that is solid, and a way to personalize your toys while still collecting the same items as others. You have the basic lore of... Humans have this tech leap and design machines. Alien swarm descends to take planet and resources. Humans fight back. Yes, there is a lot more lore you can dig into and technical details that guide but not too much so as to restrict; they are also wise enough to leave gaps in that lore and techno-pseudo babble for imagination and to develop your own personality into your play. That's what makes this great. My world and yours have commonality enough we can relate and share our excitement, but they are also entirely different. My world is as much focused on the corporate conglomerations, research companies, lone-wolf mecha pilots, romance, spies, and underground criminal activity on earth as it is battling space squids, not that that isn't part of it too. The next collector may focus on fighting in the trenches in a military type unit and not focus on life back home. Yet another may focus on the power grabs within the Waruder political circles. Isn't that awesome?
While i definitely want and would financially support a manga / comic or other form of media i absolutely agree with the bold portion above. While i've never fully abandoned the Transformers brand i've never fully invested in it either for a variety of reasons. One of which is the recycled characters . The official Takara Diaclone Reboot lore leaves quite a few opportunities for an extended universe and i've mentioned this a number of times in the past. I'd love to see missions and stories created and told that don't limit the overall progress of potential future lore. Diaclone Reboot story telling is akin to a distributed network in my mind and that's something i *very* much appreciate. As Spikeytigertron said:
I keep hearing and seeing larger and larger sets, but I do worry that the loss of the lower price points is cutting out both introductory access and impulse buys. There have been, even recently, several items one could pick from at a $35-50 USD price point. Many times, before hitting ship, I'd go in and throw another of those small sets on... But those are becoming an ever-decreasing selection with even the higher end of that getting rarer. They have had several releases, such as Powered Suits that could have been sold individually, but were instead doubled up. As the older supplies of the high-produced early small sets are finally drying up, I find myself a bit heartbroken there are no new small sets to take their place... Does anyone else feel this way? Correction: The figure packs have been on the high end of this, but they either jump in price or sell out quickly due to lower production runs...
agreed about the price points. The Legion Core and the Mega Grappler aren’t bad (especially compared to the price of the Dianaut troops)…. But yeah, another Sky Jacket or just the VERS Mover vehicle parts Grov chronicles would be cool
The pre-cut ones go quickly and cost a lot more. Most the sets are not pre-cut. All of mine have been a sheet I had to cut myself.
Dumb question... I own a Planet X Vulcan (the first one) and i can't find a way to make him compatibile with dianauts. But i kinda feel he should be. ...any suggestion? Does anyone of you found a way to make Planet X Vulcan compatibile with dianauts somehow?
Ok, first of all, where the hell did you get a blue version. I didn't know about it, the only recolor i knew was the red one. Second, thanks a lot. Really. I was struggling to find a way to make it compatibile with diaclone pilots And last but not least, what figure are those insecticons? I don't recognize the brand/series...
I bought it off one of the members here on the forums. It's the G2 Grimlock color and it was a limited run for one of the past cons. I'll have to take some more pictures with the dianauts and the rest of my dinos and bugs. Thanks for the idea! They are the animated color scheme of the Newage Insecticons. So they're Legends scale. I have some CHUG sized ones as well that I'm gonna include in future pictures. I've got a whole insecticon army for my Diaclone forces to fight!
Yes to all of this not to mention TriRambler has superior articulation compared to the rest of the TriVerse. and sad-looking alt-mode can only means homaging Henshin Cyborg
Not sure what your question is, but text says: “Pile Destructor Cannons fire highly pressurized energy cartridge shells capable of shooting through Gigantor’s armor in a single shot. Cartridge shells can be fired consecutively and concentrate destructive power equal to that of scatter-shot type Destructor Cannons, effectively destroying the target from within. The extendable barrel allows for use at various firing distances.” The point is basically that the new BP is specifically designed to counter Gigantor. It sort of sounds to me like it might even be too powerful, so I’m curious if they’ll come up with anything else on the Waruder side to combat this.
I guess his question was whether the giant cannons could also work like pile drivers (like the ones frenzy and rumble have) in canon because of the retracting/extending gimmick. From your translation, the answer would be that they're exclusively cannons and the extension is purely to adjust for range. Though it would be pretty metal if a battle damaged big powered in a future pv used the cannons as melee weapons.
