I partially agree; However Steven Caple, Jr. isn't the first director who is a fan; Travis Knight is, too. . .And he even wrote a letter to those following the production of BB in an effort to reassure them, as well as publicly acknowledging at Comic-Con that there would be some things folks wouldn't like (Blitzscream), and apologizing for it. . .

Michael Bay was also introduced back in 2006/7 as being a fan. It's why at this point I don't put stock into how they say these guys are 'fans' without actually seeing what they produce.

Its not like Studio Trigger where they'll cram in Transformers wherever they can. SSSS Gridman? The number of references to specifically Shattered Glass Transformers is nuts. And then all the component armors for Gridman are obviously based on AoE Dinobots right down to having the same weapon designs. Just give THOSE guys the job of developing a Transformers series and my god it would be amazing, guaranteed.

I do recall early on that Garry Chalk wasn't even asked to reprise his VA role for ROTB, and IIRC, he stated something to this effect on Twitter. Somewhat reminds me of how Laurence Fishburne wasn't asked back to play Morpheus in Matrix 4 (I like Yahya Abdul-Mateen, but it smacks of ageism to me). Not sure about the others. Regardless, just as I always hope the G1-originated characters get faithful portrayals, I hope the BW afficionados get portrayals that render the new portrayals reminiscent of what they remember. . .

I guess it's not unusual though for voice actors for a movie not to be the voice actors that were used in the cartoon series decades before (unlike movies that are basically part of that series at the time). It just seems to be the norm to use more well-known actors for voice work now. I never really took any notice of who the voice actors were when I was a kid (though I could identify other characters in other show they voiced due to the similarities, like Bluestreak sounding like Shaggy form Scooby-Doo) so I was surprised just how much the fandom thinks of them when I came back to TF as an adult. I don't know any other properties well enough to know if voice actors from a previous series were used for movie adaptations later on down the line, but I suppose for the general audience, well-known names are more of a draw.

I just hope David Kaye or Scott McNeil can still come in if possible.

Yeah, unfortunately these days its all about recognizable actor names instead of simply raw talent, even though the same names will come up often enough across the industry if you look hard enough. Like, they just announced Chris Pratt as MARIO for the Nintendo animated movie. Like, I think Chris Pratt is a great actor...but Mario already has a voice actor and that voice is famous. Since it's animated, the only reason Chris Pratt is named is because, well, he's Starlord and Emmet the Lego man and generally far more recognizable.

Of course, it's actually kind of funny in that respect when the voice actors end up looking like their characters, such as the guy who played Shaggy in the mediocre live action SCooby movies is in fact still Shaggy's VA. Or, even more humorously, Agent 47 from the Hitman games? Yeah, his VA looks exactly him, too.

Yeah, at this point it's becoming kind of reasonable to assume Scourge kills BB and takes his badge.

Maybe he took it from Bumblebee, or maybe wheeljack. Also still no pred symbol, so again he is either allied with them, or has not encountered a predacon yet.

Thanks, Burnout. I don't recall Bay being noted as a fan originally-what I do recall reading is how he literally called TF verbatim, a "stupid kid's toy" when Spielberg offered it to him (I also recall reading years ago Spielberg didn't even want the TFs to talk). I also agree with showing and proving that someone is truly a fan-and I feel that Travis Knight showed that amply with all the interviews, his Comic-Con appearances, and the special features on the BB bluray. Not familiar with the other thing you mentioned, but given your knowledgeable expertise, I'm quite sure they'd do TF right. Will check them out. Thanks again.

As do I-and ultimately, contingent upon getting a good set of films, other incarnations can be introduced. . .

One thing to say you're a fan, and the other is the quality of your work. Being a fan doesn't really have any meaning other then what you're describing your tastes.

I also remember Bay saying something like he was sent to 'Transformers School' to learn about the franchise.

Indeed-one's fanness (I made that up, LOL) must be shown and proven in what they do and what they create. . .

Honestly, I'm totally fine with getting Fandome this week and Pulsecon next week. It gives us time to digest everything at Fandome and gives us something to look forward to next week. While I'm way more if a Marvel fan, I'm hyped for this year’s Fandome, I feel like it'll be the best yet with the 2 new video games, the Batman movie, Flash movie, Shazam 2, Black Adam and more.

On a side note, I'm glad the mods finally stepped in. This thread was getting more toxic than the vat of acid that created the Joker...

Exactly, the kingdom writers decribed themselves as fans of BW...really didn't show in the quality of their work to be honest.

Being a fan as a director doesn't always end up working out the second tmnt movie they had a director who was fan and it ended up flopping and still have bad reviews plus movies like this need to appeal to general audiences

Agreed-Especially the fact at how Netflix is notorious at not even considering paying to use the original VAs. I recall seeing a clip where Peter Cullen & Frank Welker were pissed off about it, and I'm sure David Kaye & the old BW VA guard wasn't happy either. . .There was also the issue with BB, where Peter Cullen revealed he had to match his performance to some other guy's. . .

Yep, he was dubbing over Jon Bailey’s impression of himself. How ridiculous is that?
