Paypal asking for my SSN, when I give it, it says "authorization failed" Anyone has run into this issue? I feel like I should just move to cash app at this point.
It happened when I logged in after getting a goods and services payment. It wasn't like a random email. It said at $600 of G & S you have to give your SSN. It used to be like $2k.
Thats for your taxes I believe. If you make over $600 via Paypal, you have to add that now do they can tax you.
PayPal now requires an SSN. If you haven’t been asked, then it’s a fair assumption they already have it. It’s to generate tax documentation. You are now being taxed on basically everything you sell through eBay or money received through PayPal. (As you generally already should have been but it was not enforced)
You might be out of luck until you can speak to an associate. It could be an issue on their end, or maybe it has to be verified by a human? She knows that, she's saying it's telling her the number is wrong. This is a prime example of a thread where you can tell who read the first post and who didn't.
Interesting because that law doesn't go into effect until next year. You may have to speak with an actual person to see why it's making that claim. Very strange.
Yeah, I know I have to call, it just freaks me out it's saying it's not valid/can't verify and I hate giving everyone and every site my SSN. I typed it in a few times, now have to give it to someone who I can't see on the other side of the line, that doesn't already have it, like the gov or something always makes me feel super uncomfortable.
My exact thoughts. Worst is if you do call PP to figure out what's goin on and on the other side of the phone it's someone who doesn't speak English that well. Best of luck @ILoveDinobot
They've been nagging me lately about my tax info not matching up with their records. I have no idea what they're talking about since I did give an SSN a few years ago for some reason (lifting transaction limits or something). I file a schedule C under an EIN but Paypal's never been party to that. So this is just the corporatocracy being stupid to make selling personal property or running a small business more difficult because they can. Now that eBay's shit the bed once and for all I don't have any reason to keep up with PayPig.
My girlfriend ditched her PayPal because they wanted her SSN to make it a verified account. Also, I think it has to do with whether it's through certain websites that the money is coming in from.
It's my fault, because of the pandemic it was easier for me to ask people to send me Goods and Services when buying my TF collection, because then I could print the label right from paypal so I could avoid going into the post office. I didn't realize there was a $600 limit, it told me something in the thousands when I googled it. It was only from here, and a few people who bought figures from me on FB marketplace and wanted me to ship. It looks like I just hit $500 though, so I am hoping I could skip this and never use G&S again. And it looks like @Laser_Optimus was right and it starts 2022. So, I'm actually going to ignore it for now and see what happens. Paypal Changes You Should Know About - Stepanchuk This article is saying that if it's not taxable income it's ok? Like if you are selling items for the price you bought them? https://grow.acorns.com/paypal-venmo-tax-rule-requirements/ So confusing.
