There is no point to this, you dont like this project and you dont like star saber we all got that the first time. In that case, you must really not like the Transformers from 1984-1985, all of whom were literally rebranded and/or recolored versions of toys from other franchises.

 

How is it always a surprise that lots of people like to wait for the last minute? It has literally happened on every haslab (except cookie monster) and on most other crowdfunding. Theres no need to cook up conspiracy theories.

Imagine being so sheltered about mecha that you don't even know "Super Robot" is an entire genre that predates Gundam.

 

I don't quite get how you can go from "Star Saber has some Gundam design elements" to "having Star Saber as your favourite is the same as having a Star Wars TF crossover figure as your favourite"

Like, as much as he's clearly inspired by Gundam, he's also clearly inspired by the Autobot leader who literally came the year before. Small robot that comes with a tiny figure that helps him "complete" his transformation. Has an extra vehicle bit that he can combine with in both vehicle and robot mode, and that seperately can form a base mode. Can also combine with a seperately available character to form an even bigger robot.

He's like 80% "what if Ginrai were a cool space jet rather than an Earth truck" and 20% "let's gundam this boy up a bit". But that doesn't mean he's "stolen" from Gundam in any way.

 

FWIW, what you described seemed to happen with Sentinel and Galactus.

To be fair, there really is no risk involved in backing a Haslab project since they only take your money if it gets funded, but I do agree that it'd be nice if backers were offered a chance to buy upgrade kits that included any tiers that didn't get funded.

 

For people in EU, are there any other choices other than Zavvi and TF-Robots? I was going with the latter but during checkout I discoveres they charge a nearly 10 euro fee if using PayPal. On the other hand, with Zavvi there is the risk of customs.

 

Using the daily backing numbers someone so kindly provided earlier in this thread, I graphed these in Excel, and used it's equation/curve fitting tool. Using a 3rd degree polynomial fit (the closest fit to the trend in daily backers), I got an equation that yields 22789 backers by the end, using the full 44 days.

 

Seems like a pretty good sign since the current trends don't include many 3P drops yet.

 

"ElephanTrion" would be a badass name for either a Torca or BW Ironhide repaint.

Oh man, "Slammoth" would be perfect for something like a Leader Fossilizer Mammoth....

 

But what you're pointing out is simply that being a modern day collector can be very hard. Everything, regardless of its level of exclusivity, eventually becomes hard to find. I myself have had to resort to eBay on more then one occasion for simple WFC mainline figures because the pre-orders got scooped up super fast and the figure only briefly showed up on store shelves.

It's just the nature of the beast. Don't be a serious collector if you don't like pain/frustration. It's not to say that we shouldn't be critical of Hasbro's decisions but in this case, it was a good decision to make this a made-to-order figure. Will some collectors miss out? Yes. Does that suck for them? Yes. But what alternatives do we have? None that I can think of.
