Today i received a hip replacement piece for DeathWish, they charge me 6$ for the piece and had to pay 5€ for the customs, that's just stupid for a piece that may broke itself again.

Any tips on swapping the piece? Thanks in advance.

Challenge the charge. If nothing else they're spares for plastic robots, which are a 0% duty charge internationally. If it's for import vat, then that's a swizz, and really unfortunate. But the cost value should have been nil, as you only paid postage. You could probably challenge that too

Surprisingly they send me that little piece inside a smashed box of Aegis which is pretty big I wonder If that has something to do.

I guess I'm just disappointed with the service, communication was good and speedy but come on send me 2 spares at least.. or the first one for free when you have spread reports of breakages.

This has to be positive news in ref to the reissue, as I believe not too long ago they were stating they had no parts available….

Perhaps @ibot can shed some light on it?

Checked the mail today had had this waiting for me...
    B4A6D9A8-4D29-4B59-BD33-08BA8EF7521F.jpeg
It was odd because the box came just like this, with a shipping label on the back side of the plain box. Not to mention the fact that I didn't order him and the box was way too light to actually contain a figure.

    Turns out inside was....
    419F51D7-460B-4FB0-86F3-0DD5E76F0CDF.jpeg

Was very excited as they went above and beyond and sent me both shoulder pieces along with 3 extra screws.

That is, excited until I opened it up and saw the piece I needed...

There's an air bubble right at the point where the mushroom peg meets the joint. :(

I immediately got back in contact with XTB with pics to see if they'd send out another and their response was that all pieces on that side have air bubbles. If they sent another out, they said, it would have air bubbles, too. That would explain the breakage problem.

Not sure how the hell to keep this thing from breaking when they have issues like that. Very disappointing. That's Toyworld Constructor levels of bad. I don't know how you send out a figure with a known problem like that and continue to send out flawed replacement parts.

I still haven't installed this thing. Did we still have people that wanted to scan these for printing? I'd be willing to send mine.

Looks like their boxes are stouter than their parts.

Wow. That sure is something. I wonder if this means that they made a bunch of shoulder pieces, used the better ones on the figures, and the "replacements" are coming from this stock of initially-rejected shoulder pieces - or if they process is just so bad that all the shoulder pieces come pre-damaged (for your convenience!) and they just shrug and bolt them onto the figure anyway.

haven't looked at this thread for awhile. Happened across it tonight and noticed the issue with dragstrips shoulders. Went to check mine and they are still attached right now but i don't know for how long. Cracks everywhere in the shoulder where it attaches to the mushroom pegs. this is the original toon release bought at release. And not just the swiss cheese replacement piece in the pics a few posts up but the bigger piece it attaches to also. Dammit!!! I have 2 sets of these bastards, the other is Menasor and I didn't want to take it apart to check but I can only imagine. I've tried and tried to stick with XTB over the years but this pisses me off! Menasor is my favorite combiner and XTB is so accurate idk what to do. I know it's just a matter of time until they crumble and fall off...
If Fanstoys ever releases their Dead End I'll throw these turds in the trash and pay whatever I have to get get a set of those. I guess the Fantasy Keith is talking about is making figures that last.

Got my replacement set coming and am rather disappointed to see that this is likely to be the case will all replacement parts...

Just a thought as I can't quite make it out from the photo, but what would be the chances of cleaning it up, filling it with something like superglue or even epoxy putty and sanding it to shape to strengthen it up? A bit of work for a problem that shouldn't exist of course, but if it works then a fairly cheap way of saving an otherwise pretty decent figure.

Yeah, I thought about the same thing, but don't have the expertise to do it or knowledge of whether or not it would be effective. Not sure how it could be worse, though.

It's sad because I really dig these figures. Just sucks because three of my favorite figures I've gotten in the past 6 months....this crew, Constructor and TC BB....are ticking time bombs. Would be a hell of a lot easier to take if they were shitty figures.

At least I got this one on sale, I guess.

I can see how it could be a tricky job, just made the mistake of taking off my shoulder part to see how feasible it might be, and the whole piece fell apart like a particularly crumbly stilton. So now my 35 year or so old G1 Dragstrip is in better condition that my 1 year old Overheat...

Fortunately that was 10mins after an email that the new parts are on way, although fingers crossed for some talented person to 3D print up a sturdier replacement!

It is a shame how these problems continue with reissues/alternate versions well after they have been identified and reported to the manufacturer.

    Edit:

On a happier note, defects or not they look great together in vehicle mode with my somewhat 'battle damaged' G1s:

I'm gonna go ahead and recommend to anyone asking for replacements, just request the shoulder parts from the G2 version. The black plastic is still solid, and I think you'll barely notice it's different. Could probably even paint the front face of it.

Are the G2/black colored plastic versions of this overheat known to have this shoulder issue or not?

I've been trying to play catch up on this thread since finding out about overheats shoulder issues. It's a crying shame that it's turned into this and XTB should not be sending the same garbage for replacement parts. Why haven't they fixed this issue? This has been known on this thread dating back to the original release of toon overheat. Plenty of time I would think to do something about it. Instead ppl are opening brand new figures with crumbling shoulders. How does that justify the money spent on this combiner? Why spend all that money just to have it not complete? I'm so frustrated and mad, I'm jumping ship and am done with XTB. After this Why would I take the chance on another expensive combiner? I was all in on the protectobots but after finding out this NO WAY will I spend another few years collecting a pile of crumbling plastic for 600+ dollars(being generous). They put out how many new upcoming releases in the past month. How many of those will ever see thd light of day? And the ones that do, how many will fail in a year or two? I can't and won't do it anymore. Unless something major to fix this is announced and actually followed thru on, that's it for me and XTB. I love this mensor but if I can't have it complete to enjoy without always worrying something is gonna crumble if I touch it no thanks...

This is par for Keith, man.
It's hard to answer with any certainty, as there are less of them out there, but there have been significantly fewer reports of broken shoulders on the G2 black material vs the two shades of yellow material used for G1 toy and toon versions.

As some people have stated above and I think most ppl would agree this set does look great. I'll give it that, that's why I unfortunately have 2 sets of it.
But this thing just isn't gonna stand the test of time. So the main attraction, it's cartoon accurate looks are useless when it eventually falls apart and can't be used anymore.
I've given XTB pass after pass wanting to believe they care but these shoulder issues not being resolved just finally opens my eyes to the fact that they don't. I need to find a DX9 set for my shelf I guess(and hopefully eventually fanstoys if they release their last pieces to complete theirs).
