Half of the Fort Max body will be the skeleton for FT Ethereaon/Superion... and the other half of the FM body will form FT Marauder/Menasor.

3 packages sounds about right head is one, other two are the rest of the body.

Thanks for the information. Looks like @Marcelo Antunes was accurate in his research that the initial price is going to range around $785-$1000 USD in the Philippines.

Initial release price of $800-$1000 USD sounds fair to me.

*For those of you who believe it should be more than this, please be careful what you wish for.
I would love to see this released for $700 on the initial release.

I just want to circle back to this point because thinking about it more made me recall a bit more of my high-school physics, and it paints an even more absurd picture of what the joints have to accomplish, and also helps explain why exploding ratchets on these large-scale figures is a thing.

So, I've been going on about levers and fulcrums and mechanical gains and stuff.

Just to recap, imagine that we've got a large action figure limb that weighs 10 lbs total. For the sake of discussion, we'll say that the limb is long enough that the rotational force (torque) due to the limb's weight gains a coefficient of 2x, or 20lbs of gravitational force applied to the joint (fulcrum), that that ratchet joint has to resist in order to maintain an equilibrium. Truthfully, you want the maximum resistance to be a bit stronger than that, so that the limb doesn't sway with the barest of additional forces applied to it, but we'll just say dead even is good enough for the point.

So, that's 20lbs of counter-rotational force that the ratchet needs to be able to output. Now, think about how a typical spring-ratchet joint is constructed: it's a slip-tooth gear, with a spring tab that applies force perpendicular to the gear. To translate that perpendicular force into a parallel force, the tab is bevelled by ~45 degrees. But wait, if you recall the physics of ramps and inclines, a 45 degree incline splits your force 50/50, with 50% of your force being applied perpendicular, and 50% in parallel. That means that for the ratchet to apply 20lbs of resistance, the spring has to exert 40lbs of force overall. That's 40lbs of internal pressure that the plastic structure has to bear just to merely hold itself together.

Just to reiterate here that a clutch system is definitely the way to go for a figure of ridiculous size like this. That way you're not fighting significant mechanical losses in order to just keep limbs from sagging. Either that, or forgo the stopping mechanisms entirely, and rely on hyper-tensioned metal friction joints like you see in a lot of high-end Japanese figures, but that compounds the weight issues, and are pretty much impossible to repair.

The international price was quoted to be around $1250-$1550. We’ll see how this all plays out, still a whole lot of unknowns.

There is the argument for this and Pointblank that Maketoys made but I think FT will just want to replace all of them and a lot of people will drop their MT versions or just buy the unreleased FT versions.

Yes, you can see that there have been a lot of changes to the lower leg engineering to get a smoother appearance. Perhaps to account for the interchangeable parts?

The eyes being slightly bigger helps. He does look a bit pouty though…

I have a preorder for the combo from a while back. But I don’t know if the head will be supplied on release or if it will have to wait for the body to be produced. I’m tempted to grab a preorder to be sure I at least end up with the head, as circumstances at the time of the bodies release will determine if I go ahead & purchase this ridiculous piece of awesome in its entirety

Well, she's only 5'2" and so you can understand her worries!

But no, I think this Fort Max is too big. Yes, it would look impressive standing in a corner, but that would be dull and a cheaper non-transforming statue could do the same. I like to transform the figures, to pose them, to have them on my desk to play around with, etc.

I recently replaced FT Terminus Giganticus with DX9 Gabriel and this was such a good decision. Terminus looks impressive, but his hip and knee joints couldn't support his weight and all he could do was stand there. Gabriel looks less imposing but is more fun. I bought Zeta Unicron for £200ish, and I wouldn't have bought Haslab for £200, let alone the price it was. That was teased as "biggest TF ever" and some people said that they were buying it for just that reason, which is odd. FT Fort Max also seems more of an exercise in "make the biggest TF ever" rather than "make the best Fort Max".

I would love to have a masterpiece Fort Max, but not at this size. I would be happy with him at the size of the G1 Fort Max. To be honest, I would have been happy with him much smaller than that, because I grew up with the comics rather than the cartoon, and in those he wasn't a giant:

    headmaster_autobots_2.jpg

The G1 toys look a bit silly doing that:

    headmaster_autobots_3.jpg

I'd be quite happy with the relative scale of Zeta Fort Max and the G1s:

    headmaster_autobots_4.jpg

But a compromise would be G1 size. Then he could battle ER Scorponok:

    FM_Scorpy_LARGE.jpg

So why am I following this thread if I have no interest in buying the figure? Because I want to see how it will turn out. Partly an interest in the engineering. Terminus Giganticus was a wobbly mess. There are rumours than the combiners are delayed because the frame can't support the weight. But also, maybe there will be enough demand for a shorter Fort Max that it might happen.

Anyway, there you go. I know you were asking a jokey question, but you gave me an excuse to post that picture of G1 Fort Max and ER Scorponok, and the matching heights make me happy!

Yeah, I love the comic sized Scorponok and Max that were just a bit bigger than the other headmasters, maybe a legends one would be closer to that.
