Gym membership? If this thing is 100 lbs, we'll all be able to use it in a variety of weighted exercises.

If you buy two like @Dpuff, most people can use both to do a body weight bench press.

If you accidentally poorly pose any other 3P/TT MP, and it falls over, it might break something off the toy, but it wouldn't end up killing you.

If a 100 lb toy fell off of even a short pedestal onto you, that's not going to be great for anyone. This reminds me of the injuries that people used to see when kids would pull down 27" CRT TVs...

what if they sell this thing in parts? (legs, arms, chest) and then you have to put it all together?

By what do you base this assertion on, other than wishful thinking?

Lightweight plastics like polystyrene are brittle and can't withstand heavy play or force backlash from ratchet joints. Unreinforced ABS is wobbly.

Again, Unicron is the closest example you can get at this moment for an articulated toy with as careful mass budgeting as possible. Strip him down of all the kibble to approximate Fort Max's physique, and he's still ~7lbs. Multiply by 8, for a total of 56 lbs, for the most basic of basic of large articulated robots. And that's only if the structural physics scale up favorably, which again, square-cube law tends to run counter to that.

Company reps always suck. I mean their job is literally to appease us by giving us just enough info to keep us interested. Even hasbro mattel and the like are super cryptic when announcing things or asked specific questions. Its always "just wait and see what we have in store for you" or "this project is so exciting and i cant wait to tell you all about it" and then silence until release date.

That seems like it would be best for spreading out the cost of the thing.

The main problem I see with that, as raised a few pages ago, was that if someone misses a PO, they're going to have a Fort Max missing an arm or a leg. Or potentially a torso, which would be the worst.

While I'm not a big MP or 3P collector I've gotta hand it to FansToys, they have my attention with this project. I don't plan on buying it, but I'll absolutely be rooting for them from the sidelines. This is unprecedented territory in every sense. No other mass-produced transforming robot toy, or fully articulated action figure for that matter, is anywhere close to this thing in size. I had my doubts that it would actually come out after the initial TFCon reveal, but now that Cerebros is up for preorder I'm finally getting that "this is actually happening" feeling.

They have some major logistics to figure out. FT's Omega could be a bit wobbly, and this thing is going to be twice as tall and who knows how many times as heavy. They're going to need to get creative with the joints, maybe by adding some locking mechanisms ala Ultimetal Optimus Prime, and come up with a way for the transformation to be... actually doable. I've seen fit adults struggle to transform G1 Fort Max and this is on a whole other level from that. Then, of course, there's the issue of price. People have already said it and yes, I would be shocked if this was less than $1000 when all is said and done. Maybe FT has seen how much people are willing to pay for high-end statues and are targeting that kind of collector, but there's no doubt that a good chunk of their usual customer base simply cannot afford this.

I wish 'em luck, both because I want their ambition to pay off and because if they don't get this to work, it will be a seriously costly failure.

That’s why we promoted dalianjj to lordship, to get him out of the way of the agenda. He’s so much more fun now that he’s free from those corporate constraints.

I really appreciate his off-the-record remarks about how stable the combiners will be and those photos he shared with us…Oh no, I’ve said too much…

All depends on the distribution of mass and the momentum / torque applied to the object, you can have a lightweight piece of plastic than is stronger than a heaviest one made of the same material just by distributing such material better around the center of mass.

That would work for a static object, but it will change shape and center of mass will shift. Thus what is a benefit in one mode becomes a break point in another.
