I honestly hope it’s not just devastation 2. Come up with more creative projects that use the idea of transformers far better.

 

Transformers open world RPG, please.

 

My idea is to make a TF fighting game with basic type of gameplay, and a roster of maybe 30 characters. My picks would be:

Light Class: Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Waspinator, Arcee, Knock Out, Barricade, Jazz, Wheeljack, Cliffjumper, Blackarachnia

Medium Class: Starscream, Soundwave, Windblade, Cyclonus, Ratchet, Rodimus, Lockdown, Ironhide, Dinobot, Optimus Primal

Heavy Class: Optimus, Megatron, Shockwave, Ultra Magnus, Bulkhead, Blackout, Jetfire, Beast Wars Megatron, Prime Breakdown, Grimlock

 

I don't imagine that it will be WfC/FoC/RotDS or Devastation sequels. It's been a long time and those were made by outside studios. That's not to say that it can't be a Cybertron-set shooter or an Earth-set Character action game, I just don't expect it to literally pick up on those series.

If I had to guess, with Hasbro's current focus on keeping all things in line, I'd fully expect a game to be a tie into the current toyline at the time. So a game for either Cyberverse's successor or WFC's successor. Or who knows, maybe it'll be set in the comics or something. Would the War of the Threefold Spark make a cool action game? Maybe. If it is a new universe in the end, I wouldn't be shocked if it's the same loose Evergreen-G1 nebulous style that a lot of things are in.

 

Honestly, we've never gotten a TF game that has used the ability of transforming to its fullest potential. Imagine instead of just a 2 second animation of transforming, the Transformations can actually become dynamic and integrated into gameplay. There are a ton of possibilities for it.

 

It'd be interesting to have maybe something akin to Metroid Prime morphball puzzles perhaps. Someone with more creativity for puzzles could come up with a good way to create a problem to be solved by transforming into a car or a plane and doing something only they can do.

 

I want to be excited by this, but a video game company run by a toy company doesn't inspire much faith that they'll be more than microtransaction-filled cash grabs. Plus, they'll probably just end up using the same old Evergreen/Cyberverse style of cartoony-but-modernized G1 designs that are becoming so horribly over-saturated. I do hope that, if we must see more G1 designs, we at least get a more unique aesthetic for them to be reinterpreted into.

 

What I would give for the opportunity to have some originality in the designs again. Stuff like the Unicron trilogy, RID2001, Animated, Prime, the High Moon games, really just about anything that shakes up the designs we know. It doesn't even need to be radical but it'd be really nice to have something that's truly unique for really the first time in about 5 years.

Honestly, I think Transformers was the first media franchise to radically switch up designs in an incarnations, and it's what made other franchises follow suit. Star Trek has the Lower decks, Marvel has Spider Verse, the MCU has the characters change looks constantly between films, DC has rebooted Batman many times, along with each and every DC animated movie doing a new take on the Batsuit, etc.

My point is, it's time for Transformers to do what they do best and TRANSFORM! Stop doing the same things over and over and make something original again, Hasbro!

 

I'd be interested in a sandbox TF game, or even a Rom SpaceKnight game in the style of Doom and Halo.

 

I said in the Transformers: Rise thread that the only way I could see AAA-level games of Hasbro properties nowadays is if Hasbro were to establish a studio of their own. I didn't for a moment think that Hasbro was on the cusp of announcing that very thing.

Sir, we don't need to go that far. I respect his opinion, even with the fact that I disagree with it. Think of the likelyhood of us getting an actual sequel.

It would be interesting to see what will Hasbro do in regards to game development and what they will do in the video game industry in general. Before, their ips were licensed to other publishers now they taken the first step to in house development. If their games become a hit, do they expand further? By that I mean purchase smaller studios or create more first party companies under their publishing arm? Will original ips become a focus as well from Hasbro? So many interesting scenarios here, I can’t wait to see what bears fruit.
