I mean, fair, but I guess I meant like... iunno, the 07 Fracture release was trying to actually resemble the original show/toy in a way the eHobby Minibots weren't, and so it feels appropriate for a newer figure of her to try to get even closer to the show look than the previous figure was able to. Would you want a new figure of Getaway to hew closer to the 07 Movie redeco of Cybertron Hot Shot or the TR redeco of Chromedome than the actual G1 look?

Still, I do agree that basing a new toy of her off a Mirage mold is probably the best option, even if there is technically a mold that would fit even better detail-wise. I just have some understanding of the position of people who want something even closer for her.

    Damn that's a shame :(

Oh well I hope I can get her, exclusive tends to be rather more on the pricey side.

But we’re talking about Gobots, not real Transformers. The first use of these characters as Transformers are those particular toys. Sure, they could go in other directions, but they’re not allowed to resemble the original Gobots toys (owned by Bandai).

She's a Gobot, if she was released it likely wouldn't be accurate to the Gobots source material, just like any other Gobots that have come out as Transformers.

Since mentioned by someone else previously (I think in this thread), I'm very recently not as certain about the "Hasbro doesn't have the rights to use the actual original visual likenesses of the GoBots characters" explanation, at least as it applies more recently, given they made a whole-ass GoBots comic series recently using them prominently and not as just background characters or cameos or something,

but also, again, all of this is beside the point, because at no point was I ever trying to actually advocate for Hasbro to make a much more direct update. I was simply stating that I understand the feelings of people who want one. I personally still think a retool of Kingdom Mirage would be the best option.

Not trying to argue (I’ve no opinions on Crasher/ Fracture one way or another) but there absolutely could be a legal difference between using the likeness of the characters in a book versus making toys based on the original toys by Bandai (I believe).

That being said if Crasher/ Fracture does happen I hope that it is done in a way that makes the most amount of people happy with her.

Everybody's talking about Gobots and I'm just sitting here thinking they should keep doing M.A.S.K. homages like the Amazon micromasters pack...

I think this is backwards. Generally speaking toys have fewer intellectual property protections than other media like comics. I made an argument earlier in this thread that Hasbro likely has the rights it needs to make toy- and/or show-accurate toys, but Bandai effectively has the same rights, so broader business considerations are probably the driving factor instead of legal ones.

I'm not sure why they're doing collaborations with external brands like Back to the Future and Jurassic Park when GI Joe and MASK are right there!

I mean, I do know why, they're more popular and there's lots of money going around, but still.

What I'm thinking is that Hasbro may be able to use the cartoon designs like they did in the book. The designs that Hannah Barbara created for the GoBots cartoon didn't closely resemble the toys that were imported from Machine Robo that Bandai owns. That may be a particular loophole. The question becomes is there enough demand for GoBots characters that it's worth it for Hasbro to do more than the occasional homage repaint/retool.

Oh I wasn’t trying to say I know why things happen in regards to Go Bots I was simply giving a possible explanation.

I’ve no clue any of the legal stuff in regards to this, if it came across as me saying I do I apologize. For the record I 100% don’t know much in regards to copyright law, ‘twas merely a guess.

I keep trying to make this point: there isn't a need for a loophole. Toy patents are very short-lived--generally, about twenty years. I don't think Bandai has any exclusive rights from the toys that anyone has to worry about.

IIRC at this point if they're coming at all anytime soon, it's not in this first segment of the Legacy trilogy.

Surely Crasher works better as a pretool for G1 Backstreet? Back to front in some ways, but theres similarities in the chest and head kibble.

True, but the primary point of the TF Bug Bite toys so far has been to get more use out of a Bumblebee mold, rather than an authentic homage of the GoBot original. And the altmode does match, at least.

This being Hasbro, redecos/remolds are definitely the most likely option. It's more cost effective and less likely to run into legal issues. But if they were to do new molds, Hasbro could try to skew a little more toward being reminiscent of the originals. But how close could they get without stepping on BanDai's toes, and would they want to risk it? How close could they get to capturing the classic character of say, Leader-1 without getting too close to the toy design?

Redecos/remolds are probably the route Hasbro would go; it's just the safest option.

I don't know ... I always had the impression that the GoBot animation models were pretty close to the toys, at least moreso than Sunbow's designs for TFs. Sure, Scooter somehow had his face migrate to where his headlight was (hologram maybe?) and Crasher had a face rather than visor, but overall the cartoon characters were pretty recognizable as the toys. At the very least, I don't recall any cases like Ironhide and Ratchet or Jetfire/Skyfire.

Of course, I haven't watched Challenge of the GoBots in a decade or three, so I might be misremembering.
