All we know from the merchandise is that all of Twilight's adventure is now part of Ancient Equestria, that is the only thing we have in regards to how much time has passed But hey i dont find it hard to believe that in the distant future things dont remain the same as they were during Twilight's rule, even us as much we do some positive changes, someone will undone that hard work in a later point in time, peace never last forever.
Without getting spoilery, some people are postulating this is actually a splinter timeline that happens because of the whole time travel crap that happened at the end of S4.
I kind of doubt it, given MLP is going with the Back to the Future time travel logic in that when you change the past, the present is changed. meaning only 1 timeline exists. Unlike lets say Marvel, in where time travel does create a branched timeline. But hey who knows, there is always a possibility.
Finally got around to watching this movie. This is probably the best MLP movie yet, which isn't a very high bar if I'm being honest, but I mean that sincerely, I really liked it. Zipp is unsurprisingly my favorite character of the new cast but I was surprised how much I liked Hitch
I would say yes you can watch it even if you havent seen G4, you may miss some easter eggs, but you are free to go Its a standalone film
