I think he was just talking about sanding and spraying the 3d printed null rays, not the figure itself.

People keep saying the red is unpainted but I'm pretty sure it is painted, just with a really matte finish, same as MP-10.

If I'm wrong then can someone explain to me how some people are getting red paint transfers onto the grey parts from an unpainted surface?

Also my side panels under his armpits have different finishes. Like one is painted and one isn't. Hadn't spotted until today but it's definitely different, now I can't unsee it.

That reminds me, we need a dedicated paint matching topic. Like just one where people can post links to the best available paint matches for any given character.

pull the trigger and ordered from showzstore.
I always find it funny of how people react to situations like this in any type of collecting community.

With transformer collectors KO versus original and when a superior version that is cheaper comes out people want to immediately attack it and re-assure themselves they have the better version which is the original version.

The same holds true in the 1/6 community, when a re-issue of a figure happens or "upgrade" as its often referred to, its usually had a few improvements or coveted accessories that didn't come with the original. And then the wars begin with some trying to fiercely argue the original is better LOL.

I just watched skullface "sit down saturday" where the whole video was about a hardcore analysis to determine which is actually better because apparently many of his viewers are asking for this.

Decide for your self! I like to watch a good review and comparison but when you are getting down to having to break down categories and score them seems a bit much.

For anyone who has bought the MP-52 if you are happy with it keep it if you are not, keep the MP-52 to display in jet mode and get this as your bot mode to display since this one is a beast to transform. Don't need to feel mad about this release and no one needs to be throwing it in anyone's face for those who had bought the MP-52. Just my 2 cents that's worth about -2 cents most likely but there it is. Live life, collect be decent to each other!

Welp mine is in the states but at the mercy of Ontrac and has had their delivery date delayed twice now, with the delay being the only update. So close yet so far due to shitty shipping…

Okay, I've now transformed him back & forth once, from robot to jet to robot.

He is super solid in both modes and everything fits together securely... but getting from one mode to the other takes so much effort, I'm not sure if it's worth it. :lol

The legs are the best bit of elegant engineering, and really fun to transform; the way all the fins fold up and fit inside is great. But the upper body... jeez louise. I was never worried about breaking anything (again, he is SOLID), but there's so little clearance to get parts past each other, so many tight fits, and so many half-transformed parts hanging off everywhere at once... not exactly a smooth step-by-step process, haha!

Definitely one of the most complex & finicky transformations of any figure I own. Still a great figure, and he's worth the price for bot mode alone. But I'm actually tempted to hang on to my Hasbro MP-11 for jet mode, because I don't think I'll be transforming this guy very often. :confused2

Transformed back to bot, no paint chipping that I can see. I painted that bit of fake canopy on the cod piece gray, didn't see a need for it and still matches character model... and no more broken canopy with waste swivel.

Krylon pewter gray (had in house already). It's gloss and reflecting the brown in the pic, so I still need to shoot it with matte coat. It will be a better match then.

The problem with the "decide for yourself" logic is that MP-52 is quite a pricy item for most people to buy just to "try it out" to see if they like it. A lot of people probably haven't made up their minds yet, and are looking to get as much information as possible.

As for Bobby, he's been doing these kinds of comparisons for a while now. I'm pretty sure it started with just 3rd party figures, because of all the "wars" that were going on for a while where 3 companies would all release the same character around the same time. It might have even started with the 3rd party combiners, which would be pretty helpful to a lot of people, given that even when they were only around 12 inches tall, they'd still often run $500-$600 per set. Over time he just started putting official Takara products in there as well.

Also, John Garringer used to do the same thing (especially for the combiners, which he always pronounced "combinders"), and with him out of the scene, there was sort of a void to be filled.

Huh. I never would've thought of that but it actually works really well. I'll have to think about it to decide if I wanna do it too. As much as I appreciate his waist swivel, I'll almost certainly never use it because the broken cockpit glass just doesn't look great but making it grey would make it look more "correct" when swiveling the waist.

I haven't done any modding on this guy yet but I keep meaning to. I wanna see if it's possible to get a piece of styrene into the rear of the cockpit to his his face without interfering with transformation and I want to cover up the giant screw holes in the intakes. Seriously, what were they thinking with those? I know we tolerate a lot of pins and screws but they become a lot less tolerable when they're right in front/on top of the figure. And they're not exactly tiny screws either.
