As I said, ShowZ is not the best indicator of standard business practices.

The purpose of a pre-order deposit (different from the security deposit, which is essentially just a holding for insurance) is to make it undesireable to reneg on your commitment.

If they're freely refunding deposits, then it's not really much different from no-commitment pre-orders through deferred payment sites like BBTS. Except that you've just handed them a small advance loan, more or less.

 

Well it’s Fanstoys (a 3rd party known for sky rocketing prices recently for all their figures) so it’s apparently going to be going for $200-$250

 

$200 for just that? 350 doesn't sounds that bad for DotM Megatron...

 

They are just used to having American retailers not allowing a refund that they got Stockholm Syndrome.

In my country we have our own local version of TF-Source and they always charge the full price as deposit when you preorder, but you can cancel and get a full refund at any time. That's why I only buy from them and Show.Z. I don't like stores that think they can just claim my money because my situation changed and I need to cancel an order. It's shitty service.

They haven't made a good version of much anything in a long time. Time to leave the transforming robots to the professionals.

 

Larger-scale retailers can absorb the costs of small and infrequent transactional shortfalls, and will probably have a dedicated accountant on board or at least some expensive software to track all the comings and goings.

Small, single-person outfits and such are more likely to be strict about their transactions, simply because people waffling makes it very difficult for them to do their business.

Maybe. But clear plastic would be an odd material choice if there is no led. Either colored clear plastic or just use a solid piece. Hmm.
