Yeah, I'd say the faces are undeniable. The rest I'll chock up to source material. Frankly the MP52 head looks way better on the body DS designed. But even the MP11 head looks better on MT SS. Thanks for making great heads Takara!

By the way, this figure's paint chipping is horrendous but I get the feeling if it's anything as popular as TE-01 there might be lots of reruns of DS-001 that will use more non-painted parts. Most of this figure feels like it was designed with that in mind, and with the previous releases from this designer that seems to be the trend and intent.

Really rushing them out to catch the official MP wave huh

Got mine today, he really does look great, I'll have to try out the MP-52 faces to see if I like that look better.
ShowZ really shipped fast as well - 13 days from placing the order to having him in hand!

    That transformation though... wow.

I did have a screw head fall off while transforming him for the first time. It took me a minute to figure out where it came from, fortunately it's one of the screws that attach the cockpit section to the Y-shaped hinge that connects it to the body. The way this piece was molded there's really no risk for it falling apart, just a minor annoyance. I took the other side screw out just to compare, and it's a 5mm washer-head type screw. Don't think it's worth trying to remove it since it doesn't seem critical. The factory must really be torqing the screws down.

Also I'm guessing someone has pointed it out, but the front of the box has him mistransformed (quite badly at that). Guess the QC isn't there for the packaging either, haha!

I just received my copy and I am thoroughly impressed. I can't find any paint chipping or blemishes anywhere. Maybe if I transformed him but after seeing the process I'll pass. I can't believe how good this guy feels in hand and how great he looks. I know he has some tight joints but I put this figure right up there with FT. Definitely my figure of the year.

Maketoys has plenty of issues across the board but they really seem to suck with face/head sculpts and hands, like pretty bad for the prices of some of their figures. The Takara head and MP-10? hands on Despotron completely transform his look and make him look great. Meteor is an absolute must to make those changes with just to get him to ok.

I absolutely 100% agree. The stock head and hands on Meteor are sickeningly bad. They ruin the whole figure to me. I think MT does a great job with bodies but heads, they are the worst(Reflector was good though).

Yeah it's the light up copy MP36 head and KFC MP 10 hands, good eye. I have THF MP36 too and while I think it's a good figure once the newness wore off Despotron got his spot back. Might not be the popular opinion but MP36 proportions are wack...All three of the 3P Megatrons look like they could kick his ass imo. Don't even get me started on what a weak little twat Mp52 looks like, especially net to DS01!

So I caved and bought this figure on Wednesday. Really hoping ShowZ can ship it quick because the praise I'm seeing this guy get is sending my expectations high ngl

I need those hands for my Meteor. The disappointment has worn off so now it's all about making him better/tolerable, lol. I wanna see if I can get rid of the gaps in his forearms and still have it transform. I know it's not an option with the head but I'm ok popping that off real quick for transformation.

3P already nailed Astrotrain on Legends scale, so just upscaled it and add more details

Come to think of it yeah that does make sense. Upsizing it, adding ratchets and wrist and finger artiuculation would be great. Btw u didnt like the fanstoys one?

Arrived from ShowZ. He's definitely a bit of an upgrade over my previous Starscream.

Probably won't have a chance to transform him till the weekend, but in bot mode, he's the best-proportioned & cleanest G1 Starscream ever.

Only thing I added was to paint the eyes metallic red, since they looked a little too flat to me. Now they pop nicely.

And my copy seems to have avoided any glaring QC issues in bot mode at least. No unsightly paint scratches or splotches; no missing or incorrect parts. Very happy with him so far!

I like this figure, but this transformation sure wasn't made for human hands, though 90% of it is how the wing and chest hinges overlap so they're trying to occupy the same space half the time, which gets in the way of everything else. I despise the paint on everything, though. Should have gone the TE-01 route and used matte plastic and let the same usual 10 or so people bitch about it not being painted instead of feeling like I'm manhandling some fragile Renaissance oil painting.

I kind of love that they just threw a slapdash render of the unfinished CAD on there, messed up tailfins and all.

I suspect to avoid any potential copy right issues. I'd be surprised if it was a mistake.

Transformed mine to jet and back. Fiddly in places but managed to get everything lined up. Both modes look great. Super happy with how this turned out. 20210924_191803.jpg

Sorry if this has already been covered, but does anyone have tips on how to make the outer leg panel sit flush? No matter what I do my right leg's panel pops out by a couple millimeters and my OCD can't take it.
