I was blasé about a Live Action Cowboy Bebop remake (what could they do in Live Action that they couldn't in the original?) but if they go for a deeper less episodic story concerning the Triads like @mx-01 archon suggested that could actually be exciting.

I think you mean more serialized, less episodic.

Speaking of music, this awesome collaboration performance of the The Real Folk Blues is fantastic:

I never had an issue with Cho's age (one of the supposed benefits of being Asian is our youthful appearance up until a certain point :D ). Besides, any wrinkles Cho has just lends Spike a bit of world weariness and the character having been around the bend and seen/done a lot of messed up things just to survive. The man still looks to be in great shape to me and certainly looks the part of Spike Spiegel, IMHO.

Cho being a few years older than Shakir (despite the fact that Jet is supposed to be older than Spike) isn't a big deal to me either as that's what acting and makeup is for.

As to the anime comparisons, it's inevitable but as I said before, the live action show won't diminish my enjoyment of the anime, and I'm cognizant of the fact that the Netflix show should ideally be enjoyed as its own thing since they're also trying to appeal to viewers who have never watched the anime before.

The real test will be the writing (I hope they emphasize the red eye and Red Dragon arcs and it seems like that's the direction they're going with), character performances, and special effects (I'm curious as to how they'll do the space and aerial ship battles especially with Spike's Swordfish craft).

This more than anything is what fans need to keep in mind. After all, it's not like Jeep Swanson's version of Bane affected the original source material. The anime will still remain untouched. No one will die from a live action adaptation that strays from the source material.

Yeah, I think a lot of fans lose sight of this and then get wrapped up in the clickbaity outrage videos and articles that accompany the supposed controversies. The only way to win that game is not to play.

Watch the show and judge for yourself, is my stance on the issue. That's really all I have to say on that matter.

"John Cho and 'Cowboy Bebop' showrunner André Nemec discuss how the live-action series is more an 'expansion to the canon' than a strict adaptation."

Fuck off. Cowboy Bebop doesn't need 'expanding'. Never has. Never will. To even say such garbage is blatant disrespect to Shinichirō Watanabe and to the fans. You're in it for the money. Period. Don't insult our intelligence by trying to claim otherwise.

Plus this monstrosity will never be 'canon', so dream on. Next they'll claim they're 'updating for a modern audience' when they make some other unnecessary change.

So was Watanabe. It is his literal job to make manga and anime and get money for it. He didn't make Cowboy Bebop for free.

I wish the guy who played Togusa in Ghost in the Shell had possessed that power. He looked way too old for that role, by like two decades.

Asians don't raisin (until we do, lol).

Neat. Which begs the question, if Spike is on the ground, then who's piloting the Swordfish II? :D

All joking aside, I like that they're going to add some new "sessions" (aka episodes) that explore the Bebop crew's adventures (I'm assuming that's what they're doing when they say they're expanding on the anime) and won't be straight up copying the anime episodes all the way through the live action run of the season.

There was plenty of room to explore what with the standalone movie "Knocking On Heaven's Door", which took place chronologically between the later episodes of the anime, I believe.

So, apart from the Triad plot, seeing Mad Pierrot, Brain Scratch, and Teddy Bomber in the mix. And I think the gang with the alien masks are the eco-terrorists with the "Monkey Business" virus?

Curious to see if they're only filmed for the intro or part of the plot considered about half those characters died or were arrested in their debut episode.

That would look great if it was fan made using using random people found at an anime convention and filmed on an iphone. But as an earnest attempt, it was laugh out loud bad. I'm still morbidly curious enough to watch at least one episode, though.
