If Doom Slayer is not announced as the final Smash character during the Direct tonight I will go absolutely NUCLEAR towards Nintendo

Kirby and The Forgotten Land, plus Animal Crossing direct with the Roost has made this direct worthwhile for me.

So I gotta wait until October 5th to see if Nintendo either redeems themselves, or if they forever remain on my List Of Jericho

Final Smash Direct and Age of Calamity DLC disappointed me.

Kind of underwhelmed on this one.

3D/third-person Kirby is... interesting... But I feel like it's going to end up being more Donkey Kong 64 than Super Mario 64 in terms of how well it works.

Weird choice to be announcing other Directs/streams. Particularly for Smash.

Splatoon 3 I felt like I should have been more excited to see. Not sure why I wasn't.

And the Mario movie casting choices... Out of the people I had actually heard of before, Jack Black was the only one that I had any amount of confidence in them playing the role well. Chris Pratt as Mario just seems off to me.

Also, Nintendo: please stop showing Samus' face through her helmet. It just highlights how awkward the proportions of her Power Suit look on a human.

Looking forward to the Smash Direct and the N64 games on Switch (especially Banjo-Kazooie at a later date, did NOT see that coming). Not looking forward to the Super Mario Bros. movie.

For fuck's sake, let it GO. It's just a game.

You have absolutely NO IDEA how long I’ve been screaming for Nintendo to add Doom Slayer to Smash. I even started an online petition to get them to do it

I don’t expect Doom Guy / Slayer because he might be seen as to violent. If Microsoft will choose to add a 3rd character it will be Master Chief. He can have a similar move set to what Doom Guy will have and he is more PG-13.

Personally I want Ryu Hayabusa. He I one of the last NES characters that I would want. Him and the Contra guys.

I mean, considering Bayonetta sorta made it, it would likely that either character would just have toned down movesets. Really, it's up to Microsoft on which green wearing action gunner would even be chosen.

Those would be pretty good choices for representatives. Honestly, i don't know what to go with for my guess, honestly.

None for DKC (unless you count Seth Rogen voicing DK in the Mario movie). Metroid just got the Dread overview trailer.

I’m curious as to how much they’ll charge for the Nintendo 64/Sega Genesis upgrade.

    • Bayonetta 3. (Extensive gameplay trailer is shown.) TBA 2022.

    My thoughts:

    The
    N64 rumor being true
makes me indescribably happy lol. I am also pleasantly surprised to
    see Mario 64 included.
    It makes the exclusivity and
limited availability of Mario 3D All Stars
feel both less and simultaneously more shady and irksome, and their refusal to simply
announce the price now when they clearly know what it'll be
is also quite annoying. But my happiness vastly exceeds my annoyance so I'll opt to ignore that. :lol

In a broader sense, this is also just super reassuring and heartening to me from a
    legacy
standpoint. Just the mere existence of
    F-Zero X and Paper Mario
in this for instance will ensure new players discover them as they were, among others. Nintendo needs to leverage and make available their
    back catalog
much more than they do, and this is a great extension of that concept imo. It gives me hope that they do so for
other platforms and games as well.
    Would happily pay
59.99 a year for this personally. Again, no price revealed yet, but I think that would be reasonable.

And it's also interesting and exciting that this sets a precedent for
    non-Nintendo platforms
being included. That could go in lots of exciting directions if they pursue it further in the future. Also, I know it isn't, but, some small part of me feels like
Nintendo literally selling a classic Genesis controller and classic Sega games on its console
    is like the ultimate
"we won the console wars, we sell your products and make money off of them"
power move ever. :lol  Just kind of funny considering the past. (But also a tad bittersweet. I really
loved Sega's platforms back in the day.
    )

    Castlevania Advance Collection
getting a shadow drop also makes me super happy. It's been rumored forever now and so to finally see it as well as its features makes me ready to grab it right away. Some great games in there.

    Finally seeing
    Bayonetta 3
was extremely satisfying and long overdue imo. The long dev time thankfully also shows in the footage shown, as it looks very polished and fluid to my eye. (Not a jaggy over-aliased mess for one thing, like many Switch reveals recently have been, despite a pretty impressive visual design going on.) It, despite this, still not coming until 2022 is a bit disappointing, though. So I will hope for early 2022, rather than later.

    I wonder if
    Chocobo GP
is the source of the rumored
    MK8 DLC.
Given the look and presentation, it might make sense if someone misidentified it then leaked that misidentification.

    A new
    actual 3D Kirby
is totally unexpected and tentatively intriguing. Didn't see that coming, and I might have to check it out. That said, while "gameplay is not final" as always, it looks really plain, and overly aliased to boot, in my eyes. So I hope we see it get some more love before release.
Kirby is a major Nintendo IP
and I love many of those games, but I feel like sometimes despite that it gets the short end of the stick in terms of quality and polish. I hope that isn't true in this instance.

    KOTOR
getting a port to Switch makes me very happy. One of my favorite games of all time, easily. Even just the minor enhancements in the mobile version but with added controller support is enough to make it worth a purchase to me, since the PC version, while it does have controller support technically, isn't ideal with a gamepad.

    Triangle Strategy
continues to look great. Glad to see them respond to feedback and that it's coming out early next year rather than later.

    Wreckfest
has developed over the years into an (imo) great
arcadey racer with physics/damage model emphasis
so I hope the Switch port is solid, as it fills a niche not really filled right now on the platform with many high quality games.

While I'm not too interested in
    the Illumination movie
I do have to say that the announcement of the
voice cast was, uh, interesting... and mildly worrying, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt until we hear them and see those voices paired to the animations.

Of course I really wanted (as always) to see
    Xenoblade Chronicles
but we can't have everything. I doubt now that we'll be seeing it this year, unless it's in an end-of-year Direct to prime for early 2022.

    Given the
lack of major new titles announced that are coming out in the remainder of this year
I think it's safe to say we've probably now seen everything the rest of 2021 has to offer on Switch in terms of major games at least.

I also feel this Direct was just a teeeensy bit light because of that, and that my earlier suggestion that if they wanted to they could have entirely eschewed it for this month had it not been for
    the Switch Online expansion news
and just made most of these their own uploads or waited until after October/November, was close to being true.

That said, that one announcement alone justifies a Direct imo, and the things that were big and positive news make me hugely happy, so I'm definitely happier than not with this.

Edit: Surprised this wasn't noted in the Direct, but there's also a pretty big eShop sale happening right now: Nintendo Sales & Deals - Nintendo Game Store - Nintendo - Official Site

Things like Mario + Rabbids (normally 59.99) being 15 bucks, etc. Some good deals.

Thing about any disappointing directs is that there’s bound to be one bad direct eventually.

You might just have to accept that Nintendo probably ain't putting Doom Slayer in as the final character and that the game isn't retroactively ruined by its absence.
