An old Basics priced like a modern Deluxe, competing with an update that costs half as much. Pretty ridiculous but I guess I forgot to cancel my order so might as well review it.

All the Maximal reissues had a bit of damage to their packaging, which is kinda disappointing. Rattrap's was bad enough to affect the tech spec card. :(

Chunky little rat, with decidedly non-rodent-y teeth!
His incredibly pale pink feet are ball-jointed. Not terribly useful, but it's something.
Hmm, costing twice as much doesn't seem as crazy....

Pull his tail (well, the bit of spine, really) and Rattrap automatically transforms into robot mode! Mostly. You gotta adjust the limbs a bit; the arms being firmly plugged into pegs near his hips. Rattrap ends up being rather back-heavy, so balancing him can take some getting used to.
    Those thigh muscles...
Rattrap's gun comes in two parts that you gotta manually assemble, which adds some tactile play value that's missing from the transformation.
He's got a fair amount of articulation here, even able to do a kneeling pose. The head's ball jointed too, which is a pleasant surprise.
    "I'm the real Rattrap!"
    "No, I am!"
("Oh great, now there are two of them.")

A real shame they priced this one the way they did. He can't compete with the cheaper new figure, nor can he compete with same-priced Deluxes (which he wasn't supposed to). Rattrap's a decent basic figure, but there's not much reason to get him unless your nostalgic or a completionist. (or maybe want a Rattrap that's a head taller than the Kingdom figure?)

This was such a coveted toy for me as a child. I ended up getting the original about twelve years ago, but finding this guy on store pegs really was nostalgic in a way I rarely experience. I still can’t look at this toy and not feel even a bit happy.

Bro, I was so on the hunt for original Rattrap as a kid. Whenever we’d be on vacation, there I was looking up toy stores in the hotel phone book, calling to see if they had him. It was a forum like this that turned me on to eBay way back in 1998 to get a hold of one. Rest is (ancient) history.

Man, same thing for me! Had my dad drive me all over town(multiple nearby towns as well) to every toy store we could find. I remember riffling through the toy racks and finally finding him at a kmart I think? At the very back of the bw toys and the only one we ever came across. I will always love this figure.

Brings back memories for me. He and Razorbeast were some of the very first Beast Wars toys I ever came across and purchased. Can't remember if it was TRU or KB Toys. I love the reissue packaging using the old style rock bubble. Thought them switching over to the smooth bubble didn't look quite as good. I don't know though if I could pay $20 US for a basic size figure but if he goes on sale or clearance, I'm game.

Hopefully these end up on sale like a lot of the G1 reissues did. I don't mind paying the full price for one of each but I'd like seconds to open.

It is hugely promising that the line is continuing past these initial four, though.

Yes, especially if the listings are real and Hasbro reissues toy only characters in the line.

I wasn't collecting in 1996 and missed all the Season 1 toys. For years, my only Rattrap was the Fox Kids Transmetal repaint. When the 2006 reissues hit, I finally scored a 'real' Rattrap. I started looking for a basic RT, but by then the prices got higher than I was willing to pay for a basic. Eventually with everything else coming out, I gave up and moved on.

I'll be tempted by this if I ever see it. But $20 for what was a $5 figure is a tough pill to swallow.

I read a rumor that they had to make a new mold for this figure as the originals were lost or damaged. Makes sense as basic RT has never been reissued prior.

Finally the packaging on these is lackluster. Sure it resembles the old card, but there are a lot of differences.

Id love to see a side by side with the OG here.

So yeah, he's $14.56 on Walmart.com now and my Walmart honored that price when I asked them to. And for that, totally worth it.

Though there's definitely some issues with the automorph. His tail will not go flush into his spine, always a little raised and the guy has a hair-trigger.

Still, for $15, I'm really happy. The Core figure just made me want this more, despite being less accurate and older. It's just.. really fun.

considering a complete original has cost around $50 for years now, I’d say $20 is pretty good.

Truly. I never got an original for current prices. But I did get this reissue and immediately regretted it. Low quality plastic, won’t stay in beast mode, floppy, loose, and generally shit. It put me off getting any more of these beast reissues. Utter crap.

Interesting. Because other than the automorph not being perfect (an issue that, now that I know of it, I could have been able to at least see a bit better in the box), the ball joints are all pretty tight. Some too tight, in fact.

Glad to hear. You must’ve gotten a good one. I’ve seen a few other reviews which mentioned these same issues. Hopefully if they eventually reissue Transmetals they iron out these issues altogether. Not sure how they will treat the vac paint today though.

From what I’ve seen, the spine part that flips up with the tail looks less wide than the original. If so, that would definitely explain why it can’t stay in beast mode.

Honestly getting this might be an excuse for me to dig out my original and use it as a parts transplant. My original is currently missing its gun, one of the front rat feet, and his robot legs were long ago replaced with Alligator Megatron robot legs (I think its cause they fit and I had lost one of Rattraps robot legs and I liked Rattrap more than alligator Megatron).

The reissue I bought has some issues, the spring gimmick seems to keep the beast head pull forward so it leaves his beast mode really gappy. And in Robot mode his legs are really loose (easily fixed with floor wax) but while the hips are loose, the knee joints seem almost cocked out to the side and I dont know how to fix that. Their neutral position is cocked to the outside but if I bend them, they almost click to bending inside, like they're bowed. They cant stay completely vertical.

Bought one of these solely for the visual impact of the toy left in package.
