there's long, clever and thought out transformations. DS01 has some clever ideas, just needs some refinement. Their cockpit hinge could have been on a ball swivel; wouldve saved some headache with the clearance issues. better paint so no scratches. beyond that everything else seems fine.

that user experience for me is like 1/3 of what a masterpiece is. the other 2/3 is how good it looks in alt and how good it looks in bot.

Looks and articulation matter most to me, ease of transformation is "meh" but does mean I'll do more than pose it. My 3A DLX figures are great but the diverse engineering of "this becomes that" for different or the same characters is really what makes me love 3P figures in general.
Sacrificing ease for 2 accurate, aesthetically clean (not panel-y) modes is honestly something I want more of.

If I think its really good in both modes but has a weird transformation/paint concerns I'll either leave it in bot mode or get 2 and just pick up whichever mode I want at the moment (this may be only the second time I'll consider this.)

No offense intended. But no there’s a lot more that matter to me then just the looks. The expectation is also the norms like articulation and panels that fit and so on.. those to me are givens now that those standards have been set. TE01 as great as it is, still lacks in significant articulation but I’m old school about my Prime and I like it. However here we see the standard has met today’s customer and with DS001 they managed to even put in a waist joint. Those things I would now consider a standard. But fun and ease of transformation aren’t expected. I mean, yea , it’s nice when you do get it. I never said there weren’t any of those out there. Again tho that’s just my opinion on the subject of transformation.

Never! I’ll never give them up! They’ll be buried with me. A masterpiece burial. Lmao!
When some future archeologists unearth my tomb, they’ll wonder if humanity was once ruled by blocky transforming robots. Why else be buried with plastic depictions of these god like beings..

Sounds about right. I’d put those mostly in the “This is the modern standard” category.

Pose-ability is definitely a must. I never excluded those as I expect them now if they want that title of Masterpiece to stick. lol

I am tired of everyone keep remaking old character. Half of the ark crew isn't even complete for primus sake.

I just received my copy from Show Z. Initial thoughts are: the box feels really nice! The bot looks great and feels great in hand.

I haven't transformed it, but just messed with it a little bit. I'm disappointed that the toes cannot point or flex (unless I'm doing it wrong). Also, I didn't think I would mind the size at all, but it is noticeably bigger than the Maketoys seekers. It looks great as a standalone piece, but it is too big to use with the other seekers. I don't want to have to swap out another set of seekers for the 4th time, so I'll likely put MP-52 (when I get it from Hasbro pulse) with my other seekers and put DS-001 on another shelf.

Some crappy pictures that shows the size difference. Doesn't seem as noticeable in the pictures, but the size difference is pretty obvious in person.

I’m with ya there brother. But having an alt for MP52 and Meteor with their price points, and designed by the same TE01 designer in that aesthetic is like Catnip for me. I want to see more. Definitely a Megatron, Soundwave, shockwave, and a good Rodimus Prime and Hot rod. I’d go with 86 movie if that’s all they wanted. Though I think some upcoming releases of minibots may be good filler. What I want to see them do outside the box, is those three main insecticons.

To be fair, if there's anyone who'd fall in love with himself faster than Loki, it's Starscream.

Is this figure's upper thigh joint a first time, new articulation point amongst TF figures?
    I'm loving it, can hold a stable cross-legged bowler's pose ds001_kros_steppa.jpeg
Would love to see new figures incorporate this articulation point.

Too bad his feet have limited articulation so it makes any dynamic posing hard to stand up. At least the pivot's good.
