This is a relief to hear. How long did it take you and how long do you think it will take after you get used to it?

It took me about an hour but I was also working at the same time. Just focusing on the transformation probability would have been a half hour.

I used TMReviews’ video as a guide for bits that I was unsure of.

I’d say its a 10-15 minute transformation once you are familiar with it and the parts loosen up. Hardest part for me was squishing the whole bird together right at the end to lock everything up because there are so many parts moving simultaneously and many of them are uber tight.

That looks nuiiiiice! Does the small Spike fit as well? Not sure how big those figs are in comparison.

Another quick question, does anyone know if the original mini-Megatron fits in DS Scream hands?

They certainly have the right to, but to do so they'd need to go back and alter/reanimate G1 with different scaling. Personally I'd be all for that, but I wouldn't consider it very likely.

i'm seriously going to see if i have any 1/48s in my closet that are not in storage to see this. haha Why can't i remember that? haha (i only had about 4 of them, as I was late to the game on 1/48s). can't believe everyone was ok with removing that feature for the 1/60s (granted it makes some other improvements) of which i massively collected.

Yeah arcadia could probably do it but articulation wouldn't be as good most likely and like you mention all their stuff is like SOOO spendy these days. gone are the days you could pick up a 1/60 yamato on sale for $80 (retail was rouhgly $110ish for a bare vf-1?). lol. the vf-0s was the last spendy arcadia piece i got before jumping on the dx chogokin Vf-1 bandwagon...

I'd be amused to see what DS or similar could do with a "jetfire" design. haha

Got my DS-001 in the post yesterday, have finally cracked him out of the box, and... speaking as someone who has Takara Seekers and Maketoys Seekers in the collection already, this model blows them away in just about every respect; the only area where it lags a bit is having more/varied faceplate expressions, and even there it's at least passable. The transformation is fiddly, but the bot and alt modes are both rock-solid and hold together perfectly, so I consider that a wash.

I will buy every G1 Seeker they decide to make off this mold. As far as I'm concerned it's the gold standard for G1 MP Seekers now.

The original one like the one that came with MP01 and mp13? Yeah, probably. The grip is split and slides open diagonally so it should be thin enough for him to grip. Personally, the one I use came with KBB Thundercracker (not sure what it was KO'd from) and it fits great.

It’s probably due to the minimal movement, it’s there but doesn’t swivel much. The DX has more range but you still have the legs sometimes running into the wings when the waist swivel is used. Plus it’s been divisive when it came to people thinking whether or not it was justified to make the hip bar detachable to enable a waist swivel.

I do like how DS-001 not only has waist swivel but ab crunch too. Might not look the cleanest when used but it’s there and functional. MakeToys Meteor was the 1st MP scale Starscream to be able to pose dynamically but from pics and reviews, it seems like DS-001 may surpass it in that aspect.

DS-001 is definitely better than Meteor, when I look at all the photos and videos. But don't forget, Meteor is also some years old now, so it's also not entirely fair to compare them I think.

Cannot decide whether my favourite posts in this thread are ones that:

    A) offer long bullet points lists of things people like about one bot and dislike about another
    B) angrily retort to the stated preferences of others, explaining in great detail why their opinions are wrong
    C) have pictures of toys covered in scribble because yes of course I'm dying to know precisely which bits of plastic you do and do not like
    D) present G1 toon screen caps as evidence of scale correctness

Hopefully we'll get loads more of every single type of the above so I can finally arrive at a decision. I shall share my thoughts in great detail when I've reached my conclusions.

“MP03/11 was about an eight of an inch taller, but once you get rid of the elongated torso and the elevated head, I'm sure those would be the same height as V2 SScream.” My question is why didn’t they then if scale was important?

This is why the scale debate is dumb because Takara/Hasbro didn’t really care about scale. You can feel your truth but then the toy people will say, “Well, Starcream was much larger than Optimus Prime because the G1 toys, the original HasTak ones established the entire lore, takes precedence.” Then there are the comic and cartoon fans too.

The IP owners cared so much about scale in the cartoon that you can find characters in any size you want. Is the G1 cartoon canon? Yes, so all those renditions are legit and if others feel that a larger or smaller Starscream is what they want, that’s what it is for them. There is no “authentic scale” and there is no wrong scale because that was established in the individual minds of those kids watching that 22-minute commercial. Enjoy the beauty of everyone’s unique collections and let’s try to get over our collective OCDs.

Dpuff told me that his GoBots and Transformers live peacefully together on Gobotron and I couldn’t even argue with him because Hasbro owns both properties. Stupid corporate acquisitions.

Why take the cartoon as source if we have the scale charts?

I imagine it's cause most people grew up with the cartoon rather than the scale charts, as in accurate as the cartoon was.

We're quickly approaching levels of meta that I didn't realize were plausible in a TF thread.

    Thank you for that!

This is not an attempt to be a smart-ass, but, they did. V2 Scream, Bee, and Optimus are updates. That's why V2 is the size that it is. MP03 only came to MP01's elbow and Grimlock was even shorter. V1 Hotrod/Rodimus fits two different scales in one bot. That being said, I don't think they cared about scale then because if MP03 Scream is the "correct size", so is MP Grimlock (which we all know is more than likely inaccurate). In the past (15yrs ago the past), TF toy scale was all over the place. But now they even try to scale the CHUG line. Everybody else (3p and "fans") just keep rolling 35+yr old footage and making their "best guess" attempts. That's why DS Scream is the size that it is.
